Stop changing column displays and column names in reports (edited)

Hello,
I have my columns set as I need them to export a CSV, where I have excel setup to manage and process reporting much better, or at least easier, than I can get figured out within Simplifi.

The changing of column display with each "app update" is a minor annoyance, instead of leaving my shown/hidden columns alone, I have to go recheck the ones I want to display. It seems you can just save each user's preferred columns in their account as a setting so it doesn't have to repeatedly get reconfigured. (Save which columns are shown and save column width, per user's configuration).

The changing of column names is a major headache and enough to send me to a competitor the next time it occurs.

@quick username, thanks for sharing your feedback with the Community!

It sounds like you're referring to the column selections in Reports specifically, in which case we have an Idea post that you can vote for and follow for updates here:

This ability is being worked on, so you will see some relief here soon!

Sorry, this impacted the system you set up. We recently completed a significant overhaul of our CSV and PDF export features. I think we only changed the columns once, but what you observed may have been the changes rolling out in different stages.

The main change was standardizing how hierarchy is represented and how columns are named. In reports like Income/Expense and Profit & Loss, the column structure has shifted from:

    • Category/Time
    • Subcategory
    • Concept

    to

    • Income/Expense
    • Business/Personal
    • Category 1
    • Category 2

The new names are intended to be more descriptive and to better reflect what the data actually represents. That said, we know that even well-intentioned changes can disrupt workflows or integrations you've built around the previous format — and we take that seriously.

We plan to add one more column in transaction reports to indicate if a transaction is marked to be excluded from reports, but this is the last change planned. This is the last time we plan to change these column names or structure. You can build around the new format with confidence after this change rolls out in a week or so.

I have another update. It looks like we accidentally broke CSV export for transaction reports in a recent update , so if the customer above was talking about that CSV export, we'll be bringing back the original Nested report that was there before.
