"Apply rule to existing transactions" is not working

I've noticed recently this feature has stopped working.

I have created many rules before and usually Simplifi has been pretty good about going back through existing transactions and updating them to align with the new rule when I select it.

I know it is a bit quirky with the statement tags and sometimes it takes some trial and error to make it work, but for the most part it has been functional.

But now when I create rules and apply them, nothing happens to the existing transactions regardless of what I do.

Did something break in a recent update?

Is anyone else reporting this issue?

    Hello @cyberstackn,

Thank you for sharing your experience! I tried to replicate this in my Quicken Simplifi, but had no problem getting the transaction rule to apply to past transactions. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Is this happening in the mobile app, the web app, or both? Are you trying to get the rules to apply to manual transactions? You mentioned the issue started recently; do you recall when you first noticed the issue?

I look forward to your response!

Hi Kristina, this is in the web app on a Mac. I am not trying to apply rules to manual transactions, just the standard ones that come through automatically. I feel like it just started within the past couple weeks. It used to work fine but now when I apply a rule, nothing happens at all to any transactions regardless of what I do. I have noticed it mainly in a space shared with me that I am managing for my mother. Do you think that has something to do with it?

@cyberstackn, thank you for your patience as this issue was being worked on!

Our product team identified an issue where transactions that don't qualify for rules were being shown in the preview of past transactions as if the rule applied, resulting in the rule not actually being applied. The following transaction types are not supported for rules:

    • Transfers
    • Matched to recurring
    • Manually entered

They have fixed this issue, and they believe it's the cause of what you were seeing. Can you check in Quicken Simplifi for us and let us know if the issue is resolved now, with the above information in mind?

We look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi Natalie, I have noticed over the past couple weeks that applying rules seems to be working again in the shared space I manage for my mother. For a while there, I couldn't get any rules to apply to past transactions, but it seems to be working now. I'll report back if I encounter any more issues, but so far so good! Thanks

    @cyberstackn, thanks for following up!

I wasn't aware the issue was occurring in a shared space, so it wasn't mentioned in the ticket. Sounds like the work they did fixed things for you, regardless. That's great!

Let us know if we can help with anything further.
