Strategy for manually importing all my transactions from the start

I will start fresh - I have numerous accounts where all the transactions are perfectly categorized in another software, Monarch.

How should I approach creating those accounts in Simplifi and then importing them?

  • Should I allow Simplifi to initially download transactions, then delete them, then import them?
  • Should I create a manual account, import the transactions, and then connect the account? Will it then download all the transactions causing duplicates?
  • Something else?

I think if you delete the accounts, then you can connect them and let Simplifi redownload what is available (usually 90 days but varies). You can then import from your other program older transactions that weren't downloaded from the bank.

Do you really need to recreate all the accounts? Maybe start with your main checking and credit card accounts?

If you create a manual account and import transactions, and then connect it, it should not download duplicates if they are already there. At least, that is my experience. But if it does, you should easily be able to delete the duplicates. One strategy would be to have all your imported transactions marked as reviewed so finding the duplicates would be easier.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck.
