Investment Transaction Duplications (edited)

I'm dreading the 31st. A lot of dividend transactions are occurring. 🤯🤪

I just got another round of incorrectly categorized transactions from my Schwab account. Any updates Coaches?
Schwab is correctly labelling the category:
QS is not:
QS does seem to have a Short Sell Category:
Coaches, how can you confirm that Schwab is sending the wrong information?
Thanks

I've about given up. The lack of action having been replace by polite platitudes has pretty much overwhelmed the whole purpose of this program. All the time and effort appears to have been wasted. I thought we could accomplish something for the subscribers and make the program better.
You would think that with as many views and comments that there have been something would have been accomplished. Unfortunately, nothing has been modified or improved. Just little weekly updates.
Best..

This one a unfortunate. I gave up and deleted my investment accounts and honestly, it's made QS more, simple.
Now I manually enter in a new balance periodically to keep my overall Net Worth relatively accurate. The trade off I accept is I don't have to worry about duplications, inaccuracies or having them show up in areas like the Spending Plan and then trying fix the duplications manually. Looking back, I very rarely reviewed Investment transactions in QS, I just imported the accounts to keep Net Worth accurate. But since the bugs started happening, I deleted the account.
Just easier to manage this way.

Agreed Max1223, deleting 13 years worth of data in 8 accounts would make it more simple. Amazing how it all worked fine in Mint, for free.
Unfortunately, for me, I could care less about spending plans, budgets or the value of my house on Zillow. I can do that for free.
The whole purpose of the exercise was / is to track income for tax estimating and income, etc. To that end, Simplifi is a simple failure. What blows me away is how little management seems to care and the obstacles presented and the evidence ignored.
Just a very disappointed customer.

While QS isnt perfect, I will say this, their support team answers questions in timely manner, albeit, not always with the answer you want. I've worked in the world of feature trade-offs, addressing consumers while making sure a business stays afloat, e.g I would have paid Mint money. You can tell when dev really slows down, that's typically not a great sign for the future. Investments worked fine in Mint, until they went under. Anyhow, product development isnt as black and white as it may seem.
I've researched other products pre Mint shutdown and almost went with another that was $100/yr, felt like it was a slightly better product outside of missing a few keys features that were on their published "roadmap". I talked a lot to their chatbots as their product wasn't perfect either and rarely got replies from a real person. They claimed to be overwhelmed by the influx of potential users coming from Mint, not a great sign relative to planning for a major competitor shutting down…so decided to give QS a try, especially at ~15/year and more important, that Quicken is a pretty established brand. I was also not wanting to go with a company to find that 2-3 years later, I'd be doing the same thing again, looking for a new finance tool.
I do wish QS would place more focus on making the core product better. I am relatively happy with their connectivity and the way the SW is organized. I wish for better user control on using Tags, Report creation and watchlist use.

@Coach Jon Thanks for the update, fyi I've deleted Investment transactions so I'll have to wait and see how others respond. If a feature that let's you choose just the balances to be recored, I'd consider reconnecting my Investment accounts.

Hi Coach, Personally, I gave up after a year of frustration. I wanted to track dividend earnings for taxes. Not possible with the Reports. SQ won't allow us to sort by Action. I have to change each and every Interest payment to a Payment and change the Payee and Category. And I'm still getting duplicate posts where the Interest action remains after changing it to a Payment.
But all this is documented in my posts last year.

End of the month just passed and monthly dividends have hit the accounts. I have 31 entries, in one account, that have to be changed to Payments. 16 in another account. 14 in another account. Not mentioning the other accounts that I'm shepherding that require the same modifications.
You can sort of get the idea as to why this nonsense is a big deal for me. All book keeping that I shouldn't have to be doing.

My Schwab Roth IRA still has duplicates but only for April. 8x. I just deleted them and will check later today to see if they duplicate again. Hasn't happened for May.

Well, I have now downloaded three times since yesterday, and "fingers crossed", no duplicates have downloaded.

Not sure if this counts or not. I changed multiple, like 20, Income entries / to Payments. When I came back a day or 2 later the Income Dividends that I had changed to Payments had reappeared… Along with the modified Payment entry.
These are the June ones. The transactions I changed in May have remained as Payments, after going through this same exercise.
I went over this last year, but here's what I see happening. Others, Ursala. for one, iirc, have commented on it as well. When sorting by Action and you change an entry in "Income Dividend " to a Payment it will show up in "Others". It will ALSO continue to be shown in "Income Dividend. Something is and has been screwed up. There is ether a coding problem, or the way SQ downloads Schwab's data base is messed up.
Payments still in Income Interest after being changed to Payments

@neon45 this sounds much like what I was experiencing. I'd make corrections then QS would essentially re download them, creating duplicates.
Here is a copy paste from my post earlier:
I have Short Sell "Actions" coming in from Schwab, that are being labeled as "Personal/Income" by QS.
- This makes them show up in my Spending Plan income
- fortunately they are auto set to "hide"
- BUT the entry shows up a light gray in the register, but not counted as income
I changed the Action in QS from Personal Income to Short Sell
- This removed them from my Spending Plan, great
- A day or so later, all the transactions I changed were duplicated, very frustrating.

This happens to me as well with my monthly Fidelity IRA reinvestments. I don't change them to payments but I do clean them up. For about a week, Simplifi will redownload them. I just delete them. After a few days, they no longer download.
However, the ones in my brokerage that are deposits, then bought into the core fund only download once. Go figure.

@Coach Jon sorry, I've deleted my Investment accounts.

@Coach Jon The next time this happens on June 30, I'll make a report and start a new thread if you like, as this is not the problem we had with Schwab, which is now fixed. It's a different glitch:
I get 6 Dividends in the IRA each month which comes in as green income and then 6 Reinvest transactions in black for an equal amount. Those really should say Buy since they zero each other out.
So, I change the 6 "Reinvest" transactions to true reinvestment transactions by editing each one to include the cost of the reinvestment which then changes each transaction to 0.00. Then I just delete the now redundant green dividends. Now it's the way it should be.
For a few days, Simplifi will redownload the deleted transactions. I just delete them again until it gives up. None of this really is necessary as Simplifi ignores these transactions and I have the IRA ignored as an account as well. I just like things to be squared away.
Thanks!

Hello @SRC54,
Thanks for the information. We agree that this is probably a separate issue and needs to be shared in a new post when you have that information, since the issue escalated for this thread is for users changing the Action/Type on an investment transaction and the transaction re-downloading/duplicating with the original Action/Type.

Hello everyone,
I am back with an update from our product team on this issue. While we have fixed a number of problems that were causing duplicates, some of the changes introduced a new problem. We have now identified the cause of one issue that users are still reporting - a duplicate after changing a Dividend to a Payment. We are working on a fix for that one as well at this time.
Thanks for your patience as we continue to investigate this issue.
