Add “Split by Percentage” Option to splits. (edited)

One little feature I loved in Quicken Classic was the “distribute proportionately” button when entering receipts on a transaction.

For example, if you had .97 cents left, you could click a button and distribute the amount proportionally between all the existing splits. More expensive splits got more of the leftover distributed to them. As it stands now, you just have to create a new split for Sales Tax and click the “Add Left to Split.” I suggest adding a second blue text on white background option.

    Hello @Flopbot,

Thanks for reaching out with this feature request! I have turned this post into a discussion, as this feature seems to already exist within Quicken Simplifi via the "Divide among Splits" option.

Is this feature request Mobile or Quicken Business and Personal specific? If it is, the option to use "Divide among Splits" exists there as well. Let us know!

I just tried this out! I had seen this option before and didn’t realize it could split the remaining “left to split” to the already existing splits. I will definitely make use of this going forward!

The only thing I see differently here is the original request was to split proportionately, while this is splitting evenly… @Flopbot can decide if maybe it should be turned back into an idea post or kept as-is.

Talk about a hidden feature. 😀 But it isn't what @Flopbot wanted. If you have a $10 transaction and $6 is food and $3 is supplies, this features divides the $1 tax as 50-50 when it should be $.67 to food and $.33 to supplies. It's not a feature I would use since I put in sales tax category.

On the other hand, it is handy if you don't want to keep up with sales tax as it is exactly what I would do otherwise, split it proportionately. I tried to find this feature just now in Classic and I couldn't find it, so I assume as usual it is in the Windows version and not the Mac version.

Oh wow, how long has that been hiding there?! I’d love to see two options:

    1. Split 50/50.
    2. Split proportionally.

As for the placement, honestly, I’ve never noticed it. @SRC54 is right that it’s pretty hidden.

    Hello @SRC54 and @Flopbot,

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure how the "split proportionally" feature you described would work technically in Quicken Simplifi, considering the program would not know the specific split proportions until users designate them themselves.

@Coach Jon I think the way it would work would be that Simplifi like Classic would figure out what percentage of the transaction was each category and then multiply that percentage by the leftover and apply it to the category. It can be done; whether it's worthwhile is another story.

As I say, if I didn't use a sales tax category, I would just divvy it up roughly by a percentage.

    Thanks for the clarification @SRC54,

I have gone ahead and converted this post back to an idea post for others to vote for and follow for updates!
