Pending deposits double in bank balance

A pending deposit is doubled in my Simplifi bank balance. At the top of the screen listing my bank transactions, “balance with pending” is showing. In “edit pending settings,” “Balance Type” is set for “Bank Balance (Default).” Even though I select “Balance Type” as “Balance with Pending,” Simplifi will not save that setting. It reverts back to “Bank Balance (Default).”

    Hello @Jlexky,

Thanks for reaching out! To help clarify your situation, can you let us know what specific bank your account is associated with? I would also suggest signing out and signing back into Quicken Simplifi to see if that works for you.

    Thank you,

@Coach Jon, Bank of Lexington. This is the 2nd time this has happened this month even after I have signed out and signed back in. Thanks for getting back to me.

    Hello @Jlexky,

Thank you for the information. Did signing out and back in fix the issue with the setting you mentioned? Additionally, I would try resetting the account connection if that does not work. https://support.simplifi.quicken.com/en/articles/4857199-when-and-how-to-reset-your-account-connections

Hi @Coach Jon. I did not try resetting the connection because the issue resolved itself “overnight.” Thanks for your help!

@Coach Jon. This issue has occurred again today. A new deposit is included twice in my Simplifi bank balance. The balance setting is set to include pending. I am not able to set to Bank Balance (Default) as that option is greyed out and I’m not able to select it.

    Hello @Jlexky,

Thanks for the follow-up. I would try the previous steps I gave to see if this works for you.

    Let us know!

@ Coach Jon, the account balance “self corrected” the day after the Pending transaction was posted. This seems to be the pattern. I am expecting another deposit mid-month and will let you know if the issue recurs. BTW, this happens with “ACH” deposits.

@Coach Jon , I had another ACH withdrawal from my checking account today. The amount of the withdrawal is doubled in my bank balance. This problem continues, and, I’m sure, you understand how annoying this is! Is anyone working on resolving this issue? Thanks.

This sounds like a bank-specific issue, as my accounts are no longer doing this (this was happening with Chase recently, but is fixed). IN the case of Chase, there was something the bank had to change on their website to fix it. The issue showed typically (on the web) in the tooltip on the top right of the account window showing a pending adjustment that was being applied on top of the bank balance which already included those pending transactions. I bet this is something similar, and the bank may need to change something, as happened with Chase. I don't know what to tell you to tell your bank, though.

    Hello @Jlexky,

Thanks for following up. Is your Balance Type setting still being reverted when you try changing it, or is that issue resolved? Is it currently set to Bank Balance (default) or Balance with Pending? As Robwilk mentioned, does the tooltip in the top right of the account window show a pending adjustment?

Additionally, I would try connecting with a fresh connection. You can make the accounts manual and then use the Add Account flow to get a completely fresh connection. If the connection is successful, you'll then want to link the accounts to your existing Quicken Simplifi accounts.

@Coach Jon. Thanks for your response. I have to ask, though, why should I have to go through all those steps? Why doesn’t Simplifi simply handle the transactions and balances correctly?

@RobWilk, thanks for your response. As I said to @Coach Jon, why should I, or any Simplifi user, have to go through those steps? I would think that Simplifi would resolve this issue.

Simplifi balances start with the balance at the bank, and apply manual/pending charges to that - some bank connections may have differences which cause issues specific to that bank - and they might need to collect info from a user of that bank to file a report with the company (not Quicken) who manages that connection. Collecting that information involves trying several things first to rule them out. Without information, they cannot file a report with them.

    That's my understanding, anyway.

    Hello @Jlexky,

@RobWilk is correct. In order to report these issues and resolve them, we need to be able to gather sufficient information, including troubleshooting steps. I hope this makes sense.

I've got this issue now with a Manual account. It has no pending transactions. The "Balance with Pending" tooltip shows an amount which is the amount of my latest, cleared transaction. This means that the balance displayed is wrong (off by that amount).

In addition, there's a button to Edit Pending Settings when reading the "balance with pending" tooltip but when you click it, there's just the option to change the account name and type. Nothing about the Pending settings.

    Hello @EL1234,

Thank you for reaching out. Can you please provide a screenshot of the tooltip as well as the Edit Pending settings you mentioned? This will help clarify what is happening on our side.

Hi, thanks @Coach Jon for your response! The error already fixed itself by the this morning, I can show a screenshot of the tooltip but it says zero now so I don't know if it'll help anything.

Here's a screenshot of the Edit Pending Settings:

    Hello @EL1234,

Thanks for the response. If the issue is resolved then that is good. I would suggest keeping an eye on things going forward for this account and let us know if this pops up again.
