Quicken Simplifi "Balance with Pending" no longer matches my bank (CapitalOne) - off by $87.35
Hi -
About a week ago, I noticed that the "Balance with Pending" in QS no longer matches my bank (CapitalOne) - it is consistently off by $87.35
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going on, including:
- Manually refreshing the account (many times)
- Searching QS and my bank for transactions of $87.35 and $87.35/2 (there are none)
- Going over every transaction in QS and my bank for a couple months - looking for any discrepancies (found none)
- Reconciling for pending transactions in each
- Reviewing numerous articles and discussions in this community
- Toggling the account from Connected to Manual and then back to Connected (twice)
However, nothing seems to work - please HELP!

Wow, that is irritating. I haven't had any trouble of this sort with Capital One 360 checking account. Reconnecting should have fixed it. After you went manual, did you go to Capital One bank site and revoke Simplifi's access? That is the only thing I can think of.
Even if you have missing transactions, it shouldn't make a difference. If necessary for your piece of mind, in the meantime, you could enter an Adjustment or you could just put in a pending transaction for -87.35 to see if that gets rid of it temporarily.
Good luck.

Hi @JCMattingly
This is a long shot, but you might want to check your Refund Tracker page to see if you have a refund that was set up and perhaps even completed but the reminder is still active.
The only reason I suggest this is because I made a payment to a service provider that they were going to return due to a scheduling issue. I set up a refund reminder for it but when the money was returned there was a snafu in the refund completion process and that refund reminder remained active creating an entry in my Spending Plan under Other Spending resulting in a phantom transaction in my QS account that caused a discrepancy between the bank reported balance and my QS balance.

@JCMattingly, thanks for reaching out to the Community!
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing a balance discrepancy with Capital One in Quicken Simplifi. To clarify the issue, is the actual account balance off, or are you referring to the 'Balance with pending' tooltip specifically?
Or are you saying that the account balance is off because there is $87.35 showing as pending in the 'balance with pending' tooltip? Do you have any pending transactions entered in Quicken Simplifi for this account?
Since account balances for connected accounts are provided by the bank, adding an adjustment transaction wouldn't resolve the issue unless it's left in a "pending" state and you have the account set up to count pending transactions. Our support article here has more details on how balances work in Quicken Simplifi, as well as some troubleshooting steps for resolving discrepancies:
I'd also recommend gaining a completely fresh connection with the bank and gaining a new access token when doing so. Here are the steps:
- Navigate to the bank's website, sign in, and remove Quicken's access from the bank's third-party linked apps.
- Navigate back to Quicken Simplifi and make all of your accounts with this bank manual by following the steps here.
- Once you see the account(s) listed in the Manual Accounts section under Settings > Accounts, go back through the Add Account flow to reconnect to the bank and reauthorize your accounts.
- Carefully link the account(s) found to your existing Quicken Simplifi account(s) by following the steps here.
I look forward to your reply!

Very big thank you to everyone that replied (especially Danny!) - it turned out to be items in the Refund Tracker - my wife had entered several of these but didn't link them to transactions when the money arrived -
This definitely helps my OCD :)

BTW, I haven't used the Refund Tracker much. The last time I used it, it gave me some trouble after linking the transaction to the Refund (which Simplifi did automatically). I couldn't mark the downloaded transaction as Reviewed. I finally had to delete the Refund Reminder, then I could clear it. There was a report of this bug here somewhere.
Anyhow, the Refund Tracker seems to be just a specialized Reminder. I have now created one for my expected Chase Visa Cash Back, so I shall see if it works better this time.
So @DannyB when the expected date arrives and it is unlinked, Simplifi treats the Refund as a pending transaction? I am a little confused on this. Thanks.

This is the first time I experienced this issue. If I recall, I may have entered a manual transaction for the refund to test out how Capital One handled manually entered transactions when the actual transaction downloaded not giving any thought to the already created refund reminder. I think having this reminder in place at the same time was a contributing factor, but that pure speculation based in no evidence at all.

@DannyB I just find the Refund reminder problematic. The one I created a couple of days ago, I decided to change the due date from Sunday to next Friday as I realized 3 days was too short to expect it. Nope, would not let me. Just deleted it.
