Duplicate Pending Transactions...

[removed] this topic has been posted many times. I have been a simplifi user for many years now and I continue to see duplicate transactions in pending. It seems if you modify a pending transaction such as give it a category, tag or note then a duplicate will appear. Often the updated pending transaction will linger and the duplicate will be moved to cleared. This then requires the user to delete the one in pending and then recategorize the cleared transaction. This user experience often makes me doubt the accuracy of my balance etc. My primary bank is BOA. Let me know if you and your team need more info I am happy to provide. This has literally be going on every month for over a year. I thought by now the technical team would of resolved this.

    Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like what may be occurring here is that once Quicken Simplifi refreshes and connects to your bank, the edited pending transaction is not being recognized within Quicken Simplifi, which may be causing the duplicate you are seeing. If you open the Transaction Detail view of the edited and duplicate transactions, can you share a screenshot of what this shows in Quicken Simplifi? I would also see if a fresh connection would help here. You can make the accounts manual and then use the Add Account flow to get a completely fresh connection. If the connection is successful, you'll then want to link the accounts to your existing Quicken Simplifi accounts. Let us know how that goes!

    I have compared the two transactions and they do indeed point to the same one at the bank. I will share some screen shots after the next occurence

    This happens to me all the time with my local bank. When I use the debit card on Monday, it is downloaded later that day as pending with today's date. I update the Payee and category if needed; most likely, it's a split. The next evening my bank downloads it again with that day's date. It doesn't match. Nor can I merge them. Simplifi believes it to be a new transaction.

    What I do is delete the second transaction, the duplicate. The next day it clears and correctly matches with the original pending transaction from two days ago though it updates the date to the 3rd day. I then change the date back to the first day, and I'm done with it.

    Most banks don't do what this local bank does. It uses something called Netteller, which a lot of smaller banks use. It's unnecessary. I spent some time a couple of years ago with Coach Natalie to try to resolve this. It got better, not perfect for a time, then reverted to what happens now. It's inconvenient, but I work around it.

    My suggestion is to just delete the duplicate and wait for the cleared transaction. Good luck either way.

    PS. It would be nice if the merge function worked better as you could then merge them, but I think it just updates the date and deletes the other one anyhow. It's about as fast either way.
