Using "Add Account" window when reconnecting accounts

One of my USAA accounts disconnects occasionally. I want to reconnect it, but there are other USAA accounts that I don't want to add to QS. When I go through the reconnection drill, I get to a screen (see below) that has 2 choices, "Add" or "X." But "X" usually means "Cancel" and I don't want to cancel the reconnection of the existing accounts.

Does the "X" in this case mean "Cancel the connection process" or "Yes, go ahead and reconnect the existing accounts but don't add the other account"?

I think it means the latter, but on at least one occasion I remember clicking the "X" and no reconnection occurred. Although when I logged in later in the day the account was reconnected.

    @DryHeat, thanks for posting your inquiry to the Community!

    Can you clarify where you see an "X" in the Account Discovery screen? There is a checkbox that can be used if you don't want to add an account. Unchecking the box to the left of the account will ignore it. The other accounts listed below in the section called "Accounts already connected to Simplifi for this username" are already connected in Quicken Simplifi and cannot be added or removed during Account Discovery.

    Sure… It's circled in red on the image below.

    When you are attempting to reconnect existing accounts — not add a new account — you have two choices to leave the screen that pops up: "Add" or "X". (Actually, if you deselect the account it suggests adding you cannot use the "Add" button to leave the screen.)

    So I'm thinking that, counterintuitively, clicking the "X" on the screen that pops up for reconnection allows the reconnection to succeed. (Although "X" usually means "Cancel.") But sometimes when I have done that the reconnection has failed, so I'm not sure what's happening.

    @DryHeat, ahh, I see — thank you!

    That "X" just closes out of the Add Account flow. Any existing connections, which are not impacted by the Add Account flow, will remain intact. Any newly discovered accounts will not be added unless you leave the box next to the account checked and click "Add".

    I hope this helps!

    Ok… I guess the confusing thing is that the "Add Account flow" screen pops up when you click on the "Reconnect existing account…" banner that appears when QS is having trouble with an existing account. So you're not really trying to add an account, just reconnect.

    It appears that the reconnection process is already complete when the "Add Account flow" window pops up. So QS is offering to do something else (add an account) that it has not been asked to do. In that case, hitting the "Cancel" button (the "X") makes sense, I guess.

    @DryHeat, reconnecting an account would essentially be the same as adding one from the backend of things — you would need to establish a fresh connection, and that connection would be linked to the existing account. You are welcome to create an Idea post suggesting that "Add Account" be renamed for the different scenarios, such as being prompted to reconnect, to avoid confusion.

    I hope this helps!

    @Coach Natalie "You are welcome to create an Idea post…"

    Thanks, but no need.

    Now that I am reassured that clicking on the "X" doesn't cancel the process I'm not concerned about it. There's at least a 50-50 chance my aging brain can retain that information.
