Request: Student pricing (teens in high-school, college) for QS
WHY?
Being a long-time user of Quicken Classic (QC) I switched to Quicken Simplifi (QS) to introduce personal financial management with my teen children (QC being over sophisticated and not modern).
QS still is over-kill for a teen that cannot have a credit card until 18 and only basic savings and checking accounts - all else under the parent's name; but serves the purpose well.
I purchased a 1-yr subscription of QS at 50% for 1st yr for my son. Still expensive for minimal use. This will change when he turns 18, still over-kill until bills, loans, etc. kick-in once on the job market.
BUT … we should not wait to have them learn personal financial management!
Microsoft, Apple, many tech companies offer student pricing (as of college or simply as a student).
I do not know what the right price is, Quicken does need to cover cloud and infrastructure costs - volume of data and number of transactions will be extremely low. Price needs to be a no-brainer (I will have to assess if my kids do not use it, I may not renew … not a threat, simple fact).
Benefit for Quicken: Once the teens start, most will keep using QS for a long. Considering Excel or Google suffice for a student; there is only upside for Quicken.
Beyond student pricing:
- QS guide for students (template for college budget, buying 1st car and maintenance budget, …)
- Integration in the classroom for Juniors and Seniors in ‘Money Matters’ type classes
A conscientious parent
PS: though a little stress changing from QC to QS, after a few weeks I was 100% on QS and am extremely satisfied.
