Rule to automatically trim Payee Name

Hello,

There is a frequent scenario where transactions arrive with pre-fixed words like "Purchase Non Pin" which ideally should have already been trimmed by Quicken, but at least supported via rules. For example "Purchase Non Pin Walmart" and "Purchase Non Pin Starbucks". The info around rules makes it easy enough to detect the scenario, but it appears that replacing it is an issue since they want an exact replacement name instead of either a trim, replace, or some formulaic expression.

Any ideas how to accomplish this so transactions inbound can automatically exclude pre-fixed words?

Thank you for reaching out! To clarify, are you trying to find a way to make a transaction rule that would look for a specific phrase and remove it? If that is what you're trying to do, I believe the closest you could get to that would be making a rule to find the phrase and then replace it with the shortened version you specify.

I agree with your suggestion that having some kind of search-and-replace function in the rules would be helpful. It would cut down on the number of rules we have to create.

To use your examples of "Purchase Non Pin Walmart" and "Purchase Non Pin Starbuck":

• with search-and-replace, you could make one rule that would remove "Purchase Non Pin" and leave "Walmart" in one transactions and "Starbucks" in the other
• without search-and-replace, you would have to make a different rule for every vendor that comes with the pre-pended "Purchase Non Pin" in order to achieve the same result.

I think simple search-and-replace with just single-character and multiple-character wild cards would be enough.
