Manual assets tripled in value. Each has an extra opening balance. Delete it and the value is still doubled.

Simplifi employees added transactions to my accounts.

I just realized it’s wider than I reported earlier: all my goals have corrupt transactions added to them allocated under a phantom “unknown” account, doubling the balance that I think I’ve saved towards the goal. Effectively this means if I’ve saved $1000 for a goal, the app tells me I’ve saved $2000 and there’s no way to track these because unlike manual accounts, the goals don’t even have a user-managed ledger. This is… an unacceptable level of trust for an accounting software. People are going to be tricked into overspending money they didn’t have.

I'm having the "Opening Balance" issue and in addition, it appears that some history has been lost. I've been using Simplifi since mid-2023 but now only see transactions back to January 2024.

I was able to fix most of my manual accounts yesterday. I just recreated the car accounts and the house account was fixed just by deleting the erroneous entries.

However, the account that had too many transactions in it for me to me to lose (Home Inventory), I had to add a balance adjustment. However, this morning the balance adjustment is gone and the account balance is correct. So I cautiously hope there has been a fix deployed. Edit: Nope, the account went back to $0.00, so I added the adjustment back!

For the ones who had the savings goals problem, that fix may be more difficult. Edit: Apparently there is some sort of fix going on.

So glad I don't use the savings goals. I just do a monthly recurring savings reminder.

PS. I have disconnected Zillow and Kelly for now and will be in no rush to reconnect them until I am sure everything is completely fix. BUT, my Inventory account was never connected to anything. And my cash account was unaffected PERHAPS because it was the only one with a Beginning Balance. So I now have beginning balances even if 0.00 for all my manual accounts. I probably said this yesterday but I don't remember.

For me, the mystery opening balance transactions are now gone, but my manual accounts now all show a balance of zero.

  • KDC1996
    KDC1996 Member ✭✭✭

@SRC54 All my accounts had an "Opening balance" not at zero originally, but yet the accounts still had the mess up.

Everything appears to be fixed today for me, but I did go in and manually delete the new "Opening Balance" and mark the previous "Opening Balance" that had somehow changed to "Balance Adjustment" back to "Opening Balance".

My account balances are all correct this morning. The false balances are still reflected in my net worth reports when charted daily over time, but that's more of a (very) minor annoyance than anything else. And that disappears when looking at monthly trends, which are more useful anyway.

@KDC1996 Thanks for letting me know. The Negative Opening Balance I had done for Home Inventory dated Jan 1, 1972 was deleted overnight. I added it back with 0.00. Apparently the adjustments rather called Opening Balance or Balance Adjustments that were for the amount of the account were deleted when they finally forced a recalculation of manual accounts.

We'll probably never know exactly what happened but I would love to know why it didn't affect at all my Cash Payments account. Nor can I understand why they couldn't have forced the recalculation of manual accounts yesterday. My guess is that they had to fix the underlying problem first.

Edit: Boom, just like that at 830am, my affected account went to $0.00, so I added my adjustment back.

My savings goal balances were corrected overnight (yay) but now only three of my goals are being deducted from future months’ spending plans making my “available to spend” number for future months wildly inaccurate (boo).

Hi, Noticed net worth took a hit and after further review, all assets were zero'ed out but I do not see any transactions generated that would have caused this.

I was afraid there might be some collateral damage like this in attempting to fix yesterday's mess.

My advice is to double check that the transactions are there and total up correctly; then sit tight and hope in a few hours it recalculates. If not, you can add balance adjustments while you wait for the recalculation.

Edit: I gave this same advice yesterday and the recalculation never came but we can hope things return to normal today. 😅

More than ever, we need a way to force recalculation of balances in manual accounts. There is a (badly worded) feature request for that somewhere. Here it is. It has 50 votes; it needs 500.

    Good luck.

@Coach Janean I see that the Opening Balance transactions got completely deleted from Account. They should have been reverted back to the original date/value (in my case originally it was 0). Not sure if it is the reason but now the account balance is showing 0 🤷‍♀️please let us know that this is still work in progress and not final resolution. 🙌

Manual transactions still broken this AM.

Anythign linked to KBB and Zillow have massively inflated values.

All manual cash accounts show a balance of $0.

Asset values that arent KBB and zillow are at mostly doubled, but not consistent.

    Hello,

I opened my Simplifi dashboard this morning to discover that all of my manual accounts (real estate, etc.) have gone to a $0 balance for some reason. I haven't added or deleted any transactions, and it appears to have to correct transactions, but for whatever reason it's showing up as a 0. Please see screenshot attached. Any idea how to fix this?

I have dozens of manual accounts and all of them are now showing a balance of $0 except, for some reason, the single manual account I use to track cash (which is showing the correct balance).

In one of the manual accounts, I added a transaction from this morning, and that transaction impacted the balance (it brought the balance from $0 to the amount of that transaction).

I think I'm ready to jump ship from Simplifi. I'm still awaiting resolution of the issue I have with my Watchlists all always showing $0, which has been an open ticket for nearly two years at this point.

Like @Cmallory, my goal amounts went back to normal overnight. BUT… several goals that are not yet completed are now marked as having been "completed" in January 2026, like this one:

    image.png

It appears that any goal that got enough bogus contributions yesterday to be considered complete is still marked as complete, even though those bogus contributions have been removed.

Also (and I am not sure if this is a change) the goals are still sorted alphabetically in the Spending Plan but are not sorted in the Savings Goals main page.

EDIT: These are minor problems compared to yesterday's issues. They should be fixed but are not urgent.

Now that I realize my Goals are not showing up in future months Spending Plans, I've changed my mind on how serious this is. It will throw spending calculations off starting Feb 1.

I know this is a known issue

[UPDATED] 1/22/26: Duplicated Balance in Manual Accounts for Quicken Simplifi (Ticket #12182167)

However there is no way to feedback what we are seeing on that issue. Yesterday I saw a duplicate opening balance entry (dated yesterday) for EACH of my manual accounts: doubling and tripling the account balance.

Today those transactions are gone. however the balance for every manual account is $0 now.

If you look at all the transactions simplifi has for the account…they do not add up to $0 balance….so not really sure how simplifi is getting $0

Again I know this is a known issue…but wanted to report what i am seeing

Apparently the adjustments rather called Opening Balance or Balance Adjustments that were for the amount of the account were deleted when they finally forced a recalculation of manual accounts.

I've given up trying to find a pattern. I have only one account that has an Opening Balance for the amount of the account, and it was totally unaffected. But the only account that was affected had a real Opening Balance that was not for the amount of the account.

I can't make any sense out of it. I'm just glad the ghost is gone.

two manual accounts i deleted the new erroneous opening balance transactions on yesterday now have the correct balance. All the other ones I didnt mess with yesterday now show zero balance. So it's broken differently now. Sigh. Basically if you didnt do the 'workaround' that didnt work yesterday the account balance is now zero. Hopefully this issue is also going to be corrected. Wild how many issues we have on a paid service when what I came from (mint) was free and almost never had issues like this over 10yrs.

You are probably right that finding a pattern is futile. I had added the Opening Balance to fix the balance yesterday, and today that transaction was gone. And the balance was right for 3 hours. Just a few moments ago, it went to $0.00. I have added the adjustment back so it shows correctly again.

I would love to know what triggered this fiasco.

What we need is for Simplifi to add correctly, so we can delete the extraneous adjustments ourselves.

This faulty calculation of manual accounts is going to remain a ticking bomb until either it is fixed finally by the programmers or we gain the power to force the calculation ourselves.

what’s the eta for fix. This is really annoying for a paid service

  • Issue Summary:My manual "Business Invoices" account is displaying an incorrect negative balance. After analyzing the register, I have identified that the system is calculating the running balance based ONLY on transactions dated Jan 20, 2026, or later.

It is ignoring the entire history of the account prior to this week, effectively treating Jan 20th as the account's "Start Date" with a $0 opening balance.

    The Logic Proof:

    • My Date Filter: Verified as set to "All Dates."
    • The Calculation Error: The balance currently displayed on my screen matches the sum of only the activity from the last few days (Jan 20 – Present).
    • The Missing Data: The calculator is completely ignoring all older transactions, including:
      • Cleared payments from earlier in January.
      • All outstanding invoices from December and prior.

    Steps Verified:

    1. All older transactions are visible in the register (data is not lost, just not counting).
    2. No search terms or filters are active.
    3. Changing transaction statuses (Pending vs. Cleared) does not fix the issue; the date cutoff remains the deciding factor.

Conclusion:This behavior aligns with the "Manual Account Balance" outage reported recently. It appears the backend calculator has a corrupted "Start Date" and is failing to aggregate any history prior to the incident date.

What we need is for Simplifi to add correctly, so we can delete the faulty transactions ourselves.

I suspect there is a conflict between Simplifi's desire to limit the transaction history downloaded — recall that they "advise choosing a shorter duration to enhance the app's performance" — and the ability to recalculate the total of the existing transactions (or provide a running total, for that matter).

To recalculate, Simplifi would have to access all the transactions … not just the ones currently showing. They may be trying to avoid that for performance reasons.
