Festivus is Over But I Still Have Grievances!

Since I'm paying for this service, I feel I have a right to gripe. Buckle in.

Automatic categorization is random.

Most of the time Sprouts is recognized as Groceries, but occasionally it gets tagged as a Restaurant. Simplifi couldn't figure out what category the US Post Office should be. It decided In-N-Out must be a Hotel, and Cinemark is apparently a Restaurant. I've got more examples but I think you get the idea. In this bright, frightening age of AI, sure seems like this is something the app could do pretty reliably.

Transfers are fragmented.

I use my Apple Card for pretty much everything because I get cash back. When I spend money on it, I transfer that amount to my Apple Savings so I can earn interest on it. The transfer to Apple Savings shows up almost instantly, but the transfer from my credit union takes a day or two. Simplifi won't automatically link those as a pair — I have to do it manually. EVERY. TIME. This seems like something it should be able to pick up on after the "transfer from" shows up.

The iPhone app is sometimes psychotic.

There have been times when I see a transaction on my Dashboard that I need to fix the category on, and when I go to Transactions, it isn't there yet. I can see it but I can't touch it. Make up your mind. Is you is or is you ain't in the app yet?

Linking accounts is a tease.

I have an IRA at Alerus that used to link to Simplifi but then it stopped. I contacted customer service and was eventually told that Alerus had stopped supporting the connection. That was months ago — and Alerus is still listed as an account I can link. Same with CalSTRS. If you know you can't connect to these, don't list them. Better yet, get them to link! You guys are not a fly-by-night company, surely they know they can trust you.

These are my grievances so far.

    Hello @Tim Etherington,

Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to detail these out! We usually try to keep posts in the community to an individual issue, but I can certainly understand and appreciate what you listed here.

If you do wish to troubleshoot any of these issues further, you can create individual posts for each issue, and we can help troubleshoot them together.

  • Thanks Jon, I don't need to troubleshoot them, they're all things done automatically. Just looking for a venue to provide feedback for some design issues that need attention.
