How can I write a Rule which matches part of a Statement Name?

I've got a bunch of transactions with Statement Names as such:

Fedexxxxxx0188
Fedexxxxxx0305
Fedexxxxxx0338
Fedexxxxxx0601

…and a whole bunch more. Who knows what Fed Ex is doing? Sometimes they even throw in a few more X's in case six weren't enough!

Anyway, how can I write a rule to apply to all these transactions? I'd very much like to clean them up automatically. (How 'bout an advanced transaction mode where we can use regexes? 😉)

I've tested this before and it seems that the keyword has to match a complete word in the name.

So, for example, "hudso" won't match "Hudson". Also, certain characters don't work in a match. For example, "macdonald's" won't match "MacDonald's" because of the apostrophe. I've tried different wild card characters like "*" and "?" and they didn't work either.

I know that's not good news, but at least you know it's not just you.

You can use a "contains" rule where the transaction contains "Fedex", and that should match with all of those.

I appreciate the attempt! But that does NOT work (and I have now re-tested it to make extra sure.)

"Contains" seems to require that "Fedex" appears in Original Statement Name with spaces to either side of it.

It DOES match "Fedex xxxxx0158" (and I've got a few with that space between Fedex and the x's, demonstrating the match works.)

If does NOT appear to match "Fedexxxxxx0188"
