Upcoming recurring income transaction with expense splits shows as an expense dot in Cash Flow

An upcoming split recurring transaction that contains both income and expense splits — but that has a positive net amount — is showing up as an expense colored dot instead of as a green dot with a dollar sign in it.

In the reminder carousel, the reminder shows up with a green colored icon like other positive transactions.

Other income-type recurring transactions (without expense splits) show up as green/$ dots the way they always have.

I saw that the was reported in April (see below) in the now-closed feedback thread, but I never saw a response to it. As @Swenawds says, it's not a big issue. But it does confuse the display.

What is weird in my display is our Social Security deposits (with Medicare payments subtracted) show with dots instead of $ but the State Retirement deposit (with dental deductions and income tax) does show a $.

I'd never noticed before.

The image below explains the splits, when combined with the following information:

The "Recurring Amount" is positive
The Account is a checking account.
"Personal Income" is an Income category, all the rest are Expense categories.
There are no transfers.

It occurs with all split transactions. I have one non-split Income transaction which shows up as a green/% Income dot. The 3 split Income transactions all show up as Expense dots. All are similar to the one above, with one Income split and either one, two, or 3 splits (plus the overflow split).

(3) Does deleting and recreating the recurring split transaction work in correcting this issue on your end?

No.

I also tried creating a brand new recurring split series and set it to occur on a date where there are no other recurring transactions. Like the others, it shows up with a green icon on the reminder carousel but shows up as a "expense-colored" dot on the Projected Cash Flow. Here is the setup for that series:

Is there any difference you can see in the way the SS and State Retirement series are set up?

Do they only include Income and Expense splits, or are there some transfers involved?

Could you post an image of the one that is correctly showing a green dot (suitably redacted)?

I didn't see any obvious differences and they were both edited about the same time (when splits in recurrings became possible). There are no transfers. By the way, I deleted the SS recurring and recreated it, and it made no difference.

I notice the Overflow is different so I changed them but it made no difference when I did.

I am back with an update from our product team on the way our Projected Cash Flow Chart works.

It looks like our product team is working on updating how the charting system works in Quicken Simplifi, but currently the dot should appear blue in this case, as shown in your screenshot above, even if the reminder is green.

Given this, we suggest creating a feature request outlining how you would like this feature to work, with an emphasis on mixed income/expense categories, so other users can vote on and follow the post for updates. Our product team can also review this feature request and potentially incorporate it into the ongoing chart updates.

That's kind of confusing, because the help document for Projected Cash Flow says that:

Green dots show Income Reminders.
Blue dots show Bill and Subscription Reminders, as well as future-dated transactions.
Gray dots show expected Refunds.

But if the product team thinks income series that have expense splits should appear color-coded blue like Bills or Subscriptions, I'll just have to accept that. Perhaps later they will change their mind.

@SRC54 says that one of his split income series shows up blue and one shows up green. (See his posts above.)

So if this kind of series should appear blue, then maybe someone should look into why that isn't working consistently.

That's pretty mysterious. Maybe it has something to do with how the series (or the transaction it was made from) was originally created — as income or expense. I don't have time to test all that, so I'm just giving up on it.

Update:

I kept trying to get it to work, but no go. No matter what I do, the SSA recurring incomes with splits are a blue dot.

HOWEVER, I did discover why I got a $ Green Dot for the Retirement Income with split. It was because it was on the same day as an income without a split, ie, an interest payment. So the whole day ends up with a green dot replete with $ sign. Once I moved it to another date, it was a blue dot! (There also happen to be a bill and a transfer on that last day of the month as well, so it confused the works.)

I imagine this is just a leftover from the updated feature for split recurring reminders. So we can hope this will get fixed down the road. The problem seems to be that if there is any expense involved in a reminder, it's a blue dot. It is also true if there is a transfer with the income.

That makes sense. That's why I put my TEST SPLIT INCOME transaction on a day that didn't have any other transactions.

So we can hope this will get fixed down the road.

I hope so too. @Coach Jon said the dot in a case like this "currently … should appear blue." I'm hoping that just means that it works that way right now but it will change as they improve the system for handling splits.

I found one other interesting wrinkle in this. A split recurring transaction that has only Income splits still shows up as a blue dot.
