With the latest Transaction Detail feature moving to Early Access, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know what you think by commenting below.
Here is our announcement with more details:
Thanks!
I don't understand what you've changed. When I look at the transaction list I don't see any changes other than the recent buttons for Quick Filters. What am I missing?
I don't see any changes either. Maybe they're rolling it out slowly?
@Coach Janean ,
I noticed two things the other day with the new layout.
Thing #1
When entering a split on the Simplifi app on an iPad, the continue bar moves to the middle of the screen instead of staying at the bottom.
It should look like this…
Thing #2
When entering a split a small dollar figure receipt, Simplifi should be smart enough to know to add a decimal point. For example, this was a $14.56 transaction, Simplifi should automatically insert a decimal into Split #4, assuming that the split isn’t $1,777 since that’s more than the original transaction total.
Hopefully this makes sense.
@EL1234 Glad to hear that you don't see it either. I thought that maybe I was halucinating!
I didn't see the new Transaction detail form earlier today, but now it is showing up.
I like having the Transaction detail form on the right.
It would be nice if the rest of the page were not so blurred out so that I could tell which transaction in the list I was looking at.
The form could be vertically compressed so that no scrolling or less scrolling is needed.
I see it now for the first time. At first glance, great idea! I love how it's more compact. I agree with @DryHeat that the background should be less blurry so I can still see the transaction list, maybe it should be a little faded or something but I'd like to see it. And maybe the transaction that's opened should be bolded in the list so it's obvious which one it is.
Two more pieces of feedback that I have right away:
I'll post again if I think of anything else as I use the new interface.
Thank you for your commitment to improvements!!
Oh one more thing, I've mentioned this in the past but it still applies here. I really think the Check # field needs to be higher up, near the amount and payee fields at the top. It belongs together with those much more than with Notes and Attachments where it is now. It could probably even fit on the same line as the Amount field to save more vertical space.
Please change this back… it is horrible. It makes editing much more annoying. So much less space and to the right of your screen versus in the middle. Literally 5 steps back!
I got it today too. It is a bit large on my configuration and I have to scroll down to see the Check #. I admit I use a slightly larger font than the default.
I don't care for the blur either.
I would say move Check # to another place. If there is any way to combine some things onto one line to make the box smaller, I would vote for that. Otherwise, it's fine.
Within this web release, the “Create Transaction) Window is now positioned at the far right of the screen and cannot be removed. With this change, this has moved the window from previously being in the center of the screen to its current position. What is the reasoning for this change and permanently locking the window in this position? This change is requested to be returned to the previous Web version as well as to provide the reasoning for this change, if possible.
Hi @Dick_Davis,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback on the new Transaction Detail view.
The change you’re seeing is intentional. With the recent update, the Transaction Detail window has been redesigned to open as a drawer on the right side of the screen rather than as a centered pop-up window.
We understand that changes to a workflow you’re accustomed to can take some getting used to, and we definitely want to hear how the new layout is working for you.
There is a dedicated feedback thread for this new Transaction Detail experience, so please feel free to share your feedback and suggestions there. Our team is actively monitoring that thread and using the feedback to help guide future improvements:
Enhanced Transaction Detail View: Share your feedback here!
Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us!
I'm undecided about the change after initial use. Here's some initial thoughts:
The field order is illogical to me, especially the icons/buttons being in the middle of the other fields and the placement of the recurring button. Visually I think I would prefer them on top, but for a logical transaction review order I lean with them lower (i.e. review top to bottom then mark it reviewed once I reach the bottom). I would prefer Category, Tags & Note all grouped together - and it would be nice if those fields flowed in the same order on the split transaction entry too. I mocked up a few visuals of possible options. Ultimately, I think about grouping the fields by bank details, classification details, other controls and am less concerned about specific field order within those sections.
Below is my current view on the large monitor showing all the blank space followed by variations of other field orders in my order of preference. Amount would be full width when no check # field is required. In lieu of being in line with Amount, I would probably just put it above the attachment due to infrequent use.
@Dick_Davis
What is the reasoning for this change and permanently locking the window in this position?
The previous Transaction Detail window was also locked into position (in the middle of the screen). So the "locking" isn't really a change.
As for the reasoning … Are you just wanting to know the developer's thinking? Or are there some things about the change that you think are negative? (You didn't mention any in your post.)
I notice that making it a drawer rather than a pop-up window has allowed it to be a bit taller. This will probably allow more fields to be displayed, which I think is a good thing. I thought the previous design wasted a lot of vertical space.
They have also made other pop-ups into drawers (like recurring series creation), so this may be a move toward a more consistent interface.
@DryHeat I would like to know the short and long term advantages with this change as well as does it implement a standard for the Product Team. Since I have just started using the new placement, the drawer as referenced, that is a new term and possibly a new concept for me to understand. As we are human, we get in to a heuristic flow and when there are changes, this requires a user to "relearn" and "adapt" to the change but it is always nice to understand the reasoning and how this will further implement a standard within the App as well as future possibilities to be implemented which some are known and others that will be raised up as time passes.
After using this change for entries, there is the tabbing sequence that I would suggest to be revisited. I, like many users, use the tabbing from field to field. When the tabbing does not flow sequentially, this can make entry a challenge until the user is adapted. So, I am requesting the Product Manager to revisit the tabbing field to field.
I understand that moving the detail window from the center to the side is a change and you have to adapt to it.
You are asking them to change it back. Is there anything else about the new placement that you find negative and want to point out to the product team?
Personally, I like it because it gives more vertical space. Is there something negative that offsets that improvement?
I like the side bar view of details. However, I still request that, when adding splits, the notes and tags field are displayed instead of having to add them individually. I use a lot of splits, notes and tags and this takes much longer then it did on Quicken Classic.
The other issue pertains to the main listing that changed when this new details view was introduced. Now, the "Reviewed" checkmark column is in a different position when you filter the list than it is unfiltered. When looking at the list of all transactions, the Reviewed checkbox is in front of the Payee column on the left side of the screen, which is a good spot. But if you click the "Unreviewed" button at the top, the checkbox is all the way to the right. Being in 2 different locations is awkward. (It only does this with the "Unreviewed" filter; not with the other filters, so I'm wondering if it's a bug.) Please keep it consistent for all views.
@Dick_Davis, your post has been merged with the official feedback thread for the enhanced Transaction Detail view, which is currently in Early Access testing, so it can be reviewed by our product team.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Everything is too compressed in the new format and too small and difficult to see. Especially for splits where you try to jam too much into a small space. Please provide an option for the prior transaction display window. Especially for splits.
Hey Coach. It seems that you have made two changes. As you mentioned, you rearranged data on the form. The second change is the drawer format.
You state that the goal of rearraigning data is to put the transaction detail together at the top of the screen. But then, in the middle of the transaction details, you have icons to set exclusion flags and a link to "Mark as reviewed". Placing these buttons in the middle of the transaction details breaks the flow of transaction review. .Those actions should be moved below the transaction detail fields and at the bottom along with other actions.
In regard to the drawer, I prefer the dialog box in the middle of the screen rather than cramming all the details on the right side of the screen.
Actually I like the drawer format on the Web App and when I enter Splits, I can now see 5 or so on the screen so this is nice.
As I previously mentioned, it would be nice to get everything on my 24" Mac in one screen instead of scrolling down for Check # and Delete.
Now that I've been using this for a few days, I'm actually not having as much issue as I expected with the placement on my larger monitor. Still love the better use of vertical space - except the create/update button at the bottom instead of under the other fields rather than always at the very bottom. My biggest frustration is actually the field order, particularly the review field being in the middle of the other fields - it disrupts the review flow from top to bottom. Otherwise, I prefer the update over the prior placement!
I don't know if this has to do with the rebuild, but there are new problems with pending transactions in the mobile app.
When a transaction moves from pending to cleared, a blank field is left behind. So I now have 7 blank fields at the top of the page when viewing all transactions. It wouldn't be so annoying if it were possible to change the sort default to "date new to old", but it always reverts to "pending to cleared".
@Steve M In the splits view, can you choose to always display Notes and Tags. Look for it in the options next to Left to Split, like this:
Hi there, @Dick_Davis, I'm listening and we designed and tested for this. Please feel free to message me as I'd love to know about your browser/other details so we can get this working for you.
