Breakdown subcategory spending by payee

The problem I have with this, is how would it handle payees at the category (not subcategory) level.
For Example, "Spending" which might have a subcategory of "Electronics" which might have a payee of "Best Buy" or "Amazon" - IF I was just looking at "Spending" and not "Electronics" would "Best Buy" and "Amazon" be shown at the non-sub-category and also the sub-category level?
What I think you can do now, is drill down to the subcategory, sort by name (click the payee header) to group the payees together by name, then check the little checkboxes in front of each payee of one name, and it will say "x Selected ($xxx.xx)" showing the amount for the selected payees in that category.

It wouldn't. Although I imagine there could be a button on category view to drill down by payee.

Would you mind clarifying where you would like to see this ability, please? I'm picturing Planned Spending, but the comments here make me also think it could be Reports.
Have you checked out Watchlists, by chance? You can create a Category-based Watchlist and then break it down by Payee:
