Transaction Rules for automatically excluding/including transactions [edited] (1 Merged Vote)

Hmm, so changing the category from transfer to an expense category, does not automatically change it Include in Spending Plan and Reports? It should. At least I thought it did. Are you sure the Allowance category is an expense category. I don't know how it couldn't be. I will do some testing.
When I change a transfer to an expense category in Simplifi, it automatically gets included. If this isn't happening with the transaction rule, then I'd say it's a bug. So when you download this transaction from Chase, it downloads as a transfer. I'm not sure I've ever encountered that. Without a rule, it ought to be uncategorized, but I admit I do a lot of my stuff manually.

Allowance is an expense category. I will temporarily delete my rule and try manually changing the category to what happens.

I do configure my rules on the web app, working from the mobile app sometimes does not reach the intended effect. Here is an example rule for a Zelle income transfer.
Also, what are you using under "if my transaction matches this"? I find that matching the original statement name works best.

Do you ALSO track the Greenlight accounts in Simplifi? If so, the spending will count when the money is spent there, because technically you still have the money within your simplifi dataset. If you're not tracking the Greenlight account, then you shouldn't see it as a linked transfer, in which case you can just change the category to whatever works for you.

@UrsulaA Original statement name.
The rule is working, as it is renaming and changing the category- just not unchecking those boxes.

So, The "rule" option needs the ability to set exclude/unexclude—- if it doesn't have that, this sounds like an idea post I would vote for.

That is odd, in my case, the category change triggers the unchecking of the boxes automatically. Hope someone looks into this bug for you.

@RobWilk Yes! That would accomplish what I want. Should I edit my original post to clearly say that or start a new one?

@UrsulaA That’s good news!
Thanks everyone!

I edited my last reply in light of Coach Natalie's response. I do think that when a transaction rule changes category from transfer to an expense/income category, that one would naturally expect it to be included in the Spending Plan and Reports by default. I hope that the ongoing refinements in Transaction Rules will rectify this.

Hey everyone,
Since Transactions Rules for Exclusions is well underway, I'd suggest waiting for the enhancement to be implemented, as it will likely resolve any issues around automatically excluding/un-excluding transactions. Otherwise, troubleshooting will need to be done outside of this Feature Request.
Thank you!

@UrsulaA I tested manually changing the category, and the exclude boxes were automatically unchecked in that case. I will rebuild my rule from the website and see what happens next time.
