Duplicate Transactions
I have a Home Depot transaction that automatically populated in my checking account - twice. Both are shown as pending, and have 2 different dates. What is recommended, delete one of them or let it ride until the next bank update and see if it self resolves?

It probably won't self resolve, but probably only one will clear, when that happens i would delete the other one. You could guess and delete one now, but it's possible that won't clear if the real transaction is the other.

OK then, I'll let it ride and see what happens.

Rob is right and it will not self resolve. I would try to merge them; if that fails, I would delete the second one.
My bank takes 2 days to clear a transaction and often downloads a duplicate the day after with that day's date (and sometimes it just updates the first one and changes it to that day's date). Sometimes I can merge them; sometimes not. When I cannot merge them, I delete the duplicate. Almost always, the other one clears the next day correctly. If not I merge them again. If it cannot merge, I delete the pending one and fix the date and categories of the cleared transaction. QS is done with it at that point.
Remember that with connected accounts, QS simply takes the balance and subtracts pending transactions. Having duplicates throws off your balance. The pending ones are just reminders and to calculate your available balance.

I just don't get why this continues to happen.
This is a screenshot of my checking, note the differences for the same transaction and the date is wrong.
This screenshot is from the other side, which is the payment to this account in my Visa register. November 9th is the correct date, not what is shown in the first photo.
My account on the BOA website shows the transaction for Visa account as cleared, but the transaction on the checking side has not.
I wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for letting us know. We do have a great support article that goes over duplicate transactions, and how to resolve them.
If you check the "appears on your statement as.." information in the transaction detail window for each transaction, as shown in the support article, do they share the same information?
Thank you,
Coach Jon

Yes, they share the same information.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for the reply. Are these transactions still Pending? I would suggest waiting to see if they both Clear and if they do, to let us know. If they are both Cleared (without manually marking them Cleared), then this is an issue we'd want to look at escalating on your behalf.
Let us know,
Coach Jon

Yes, they are still pending. Past experience tells me that BofA will get back to work on transactions tonight and they should clear. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
Thanks again.

11/12/24 530am refresh. BofA Visa still duplicated, and has changed dates and other data. NV Energy is now also duplicated - the 11/7 transaction is my manual entry, and the 11/12 transaction populated automatically this morning. I'll update after another refresh in a few hours.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for letting us know! We will await your update. Can you also provide a screenshot showing the "appears on your statement as.." information in the transaction detail window for each transaction? Feel free to DM that screenshot personally if you prefer.
Thank you,
Coach Jon

Here you go @Coach Jon. The first 2 are the Visa duplicates, the second 2 are obviously for NV Energy.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for the screenshots! I see that the last one does not have a "appears on your statement as.." line. Is that one a manual transaction? If so, I would suggest deleting it. Be sure to let us know when these clear.
Thanks,
Coach Jon

Yes, it must be a manual transaction.
Hopefully things will clear up some time today, but my bigger hope is that this gets fixed once and for all.

430pm in the West - nothing new. I tried the refresh a few times throughout the day, and no changes regarding this issue. Maybe tomorrow…….

If you have a manual transaction and a dowloaded from bank transaction, you shouldn't delete it, you should instead 'merge' them to train the app that they're the same. You do this by clicking both transactions select buttons on the left side in the register, then clicking the merge button :

330am in the West. Account balance with pending off by several hundred dollars.
NV Energy duplicates cleared and resolved overnight.
Visa duplicates cleared and resolved overnight, but then….
Cleared Visa payment was not linked to existing recurring, so I linked it. Then a pending transaction all of a sudden appeared for this same payment and amount - so now it is again duplicated. I attempted to unlink it, but the program won't let me.

My post above was made simultaneously with yours.
Based on your post, I tried to merge the 2 transactions but can't. I have never been able to because, as you can see, I do not have a merge button after making the 2 selections as shown in the instructions. Am I not doing something correctly?

More info - @Coach Jon
the transaction that reappeared and showing as pending is not showing as a downloaded transaction.
the cleared transaction is showing as a bank download, and I also just noticed is was merged with something?? I clicked the unmerge link, but I don't see where anything is different.
I am past the frustrated stage.

Another update - @Coach Jon
I hit the refresh button, then again selected both transactions and the merge button appeared. So, I merged them. Now they are BOTH appearing as cleared transactions, and did not merge. Tried to merge them. Can't, so I deleted the manual transaction. Balance with pending still off by several hundred dollars, but all transactions are now accurate. I'll update later once a new refresh is done. Good grief.

@RobWilk Thank you, and it looks like I got you and @coach jon mixed up earlier. Sorry about that!

6am update
Hit refresh.
Balance with pending is now accurate. Pending transactions are accurate. Cleared transactions are accurate. Bills paid and bills pending are accurate.
For the first time in about a week, the program is performing as expected.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for keeping us updated. I am glad the program is working as expected now! I would keep an eye on the program, and if this occurs again, be sure to let us know.
Thank you,
Coach Jon

I tried something new yesterday. Rather than manually enter transactions, I waited to see what Simplifi would do with downloading new transactions.
There is still a problem with Simplifi creating duplicate transactions. This problem is not new, and precedes my purchase of this service by a long time. I know it's not your fault, but good god this is ridiculous. It happens nearly every day.
As you'll see in this screenshot, Simplifi duplicated an Amazon transaction. Both self populated overnight. If I select both in an attempt to merge them like has been suggested, no merge button appears. If not for this duplicate, my balance with pending would be accurate, so that's a step in the right direction.

@TheReal702 This behavior has been in my checking account since I started with Simplifi. It doesn't happen with my other checking account as it doesn't download pending transactions. I would rather just turn off downloading pending (you cannot), and it is nice to see in case you miss something.
It happens mostly with the debit transactions that took multiple days to clear. On the day before it will clear, my bank duplicates it with a different date. As you say you usually cannot merge it. I delete the newer one and USUALLY (not always), the next day the cleared transaction will merge with my original pending. If not I merge it; if that doesn't work I delete the old pending and stick with the cleared one.
Somewhere on here is my original post from 2022 probably about this behavior. Coach Natalie worked with me on it and it got better for a while, but it has come back.
This doesn't help you except to know that it is a hazard with downloading pending transactions. My motto is that I have control over those and can delete them at will. It's the cleared transactions you have to keep as a record although Simplifi ignores them when calculating your balance.

Yes, thank you. I've spent a great deal of time reading about this issue. I'm starting to think I should go back to Quicken Classic. It doesn't have some of the features that Simplifi has, but at least it works.

@TheReal702 You could ask for a refund if you’re within the time window and maybe apply the refund to Classic subscription…. But the specific problem here is specific to your financial institution i believe (it doesn’t happen for me), and may be fixed in the future if you want to check back at end of classic subscription term.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for following up. To clarify, everything is working fine in Quicken Simplifi except for the duplicated pending transactions, correct? Once they clear, do they both remain or do you have to delete/merge them afterward?

I hit refresh just now so my reply would have the most current info.
The duplicated pending transactions have not cleared, and I cannot merge them.
At around 430 ish this morning, the balance with pending would have been correct if the one transaction had not been duplicated.
Since 430 ish this morning, I added 5 manual transactions. Initially, the balance with pending after these 5 transactions were entered would have been accurate except for the duplicate.
Now, after the refresh, the balance with pending is off by -$137.56.
So no, it's not working fine.

Hello @TheReal702,
Thanks for the information. I would suggest trying with a fresh new connection. You can make the accounts manual and then use the Add Account flow to get a completely fresh connection. If the connection is successful, you'll then want to link the accounts to your existing Quicken Simplifi accounts. I would then keep an eye on things moving forward, and let us know if it becomes incorrect again.

Hi @Coach Jon
I have a question about the connection please. Is making it manual, then using the add account different somehow than simply using the "reset connection" link under accounts? I have done the "reset connection" a few times and sometimes it resolves issues and sometimes not.
But to get back to my balance issue of today —- after reading your post above, I logged into my Simplifi account on the web to do what you asked. It refreshed, and a new pending transaction self populated. Simplifi adjusted my balance with pending automatically as it should. I still have the duplicate Amazon charge for $11.91, but if I add this amount (using the calculator between my ears) to what it says my balance is, the balance with pending is again accurate.
This is just the goofiest thing.
Again, I appreciate you and your efforts to help me. Based on the way this product operates, are my expectations too high?
