Question for the Simplifi team on the auto match functionality described here:

Is the only criteria available to make auto match rules based on the amount of the transaction and date? If so it seems like it would be much more effective if you could also specify the name or part of the name of the payee as part of the auto match criteria.

I ask because I have an auto match bill for my electric bill set up for $140 on the 25th of each month. Had a transaction for that amount via Zelle on the18th and it was pulled into auto match erroneously and added to the series which was very confusing, since it also renamed the transaction to look like an electric bill.

Since the payee is always the same on bills this could easily be prevented if you could add the payee as part of the match. This problem would be even worse if you are using the "limited range" option as you'd be even more likely then to pull in the wrong transaction if any transaction in the date range had a similar amount.

In my case the date of the transaction it grabbed was even a week off and it still pulled it in.

Is this something that has been requested before, and does it make sense to create a feature request to add that in?

I'll add that I realize linking the biller would sovle this problem too, but my power company is not available to link in this case. Seems like the simplest option would be to also add some sort of payee verification to the available options as well.

    Hello @kilo23,

Thanks for reaching out! The payee, date range, and amount will be the biggest factors when it comes to the Auto Match option. Regarding the match criteria options, we have these with the following predefined logic when it comes to amount matching:

    • Auto Match: Quicken Simplifi automatically links transactions based on predefined logic. This may work well for common bills, but it may not always be accurate.
    • Any Amount: Links any transaction with a matching Payee, regardless of the amount. Useful for bills like utilities or credit cards that vary monthly.
    • Exact Amount: Only links transactions that match a specific dollar amount. Ideal when the Payee is used for multiple types of expenses.
    • Limited Range: Allows a 30% variance (15% above and 15% below) around the set amount. Helpful for subscriptions or bills that fluctuate slightly over time.

You may always feel free to submit a feature request for any feature that has not already been requested within Quicken Simplifi. Our FAQ article has more information here:

Thanks Jon! Based on this from your post

    • Any Amount: Links any transaction with a matching Payee, regardless of the amount. Useful for bills like utilities or credit cards that vary monthly.

Does it match the payee with the name of the series? I assume so since there is no option to specify the payee name when selecting Any Amount.

@kilo23, unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of insight into the matching criteria here in the Community. I can say that I presume it uses the Quicken Simplifi payee name, but from a Support Team standpoint, we aren’t able to confirm that with certainty.

Sorry for not having more detailed information, but I hope this helps address your latest question!
