Third level category not rolling up properly in Reports (edited)
The third level category feature addition is not rolling up to the top level category in Reports.

Just saw we had third level category. So glad. I created some but haven't assigned transactions yet. I assigned one, and you are right, it doesn't show up in Reports. I will hold up in reassigning.

@RickS, thanks for pointing this out!
When testing this from my end, it looks like the 3rd level Categories are rolling up to the 2nd level instead of the Parent Category in the Spending Report. I got this filed as a bug and will post back with updates. Is that what you're seeing as well?

That's what I'm seeing as well.

I see the same behavior. I added three 3rd level categories as shown here:
- A-Housing
- Insurance
- Maintenance/Repairs
- Cleaning Service (new)
- Yard Service (new)
- Pool Service (new)
- Property Tax
- Utilities
I recategorized the payments made to the 3 providers for these services listed as 3rd level cats.
In the Spending report, instead of these being rolled up into the 1st level cat, "A-Housing" I am now seeing a listing for the "A-Housing" category that includes all other housing spending to date and the 2nd level "Maintenance/Repairs" is showing up with the total of the newly created 3rd level categories. This is the same in both available graphs.
Note that in this graph there is a listing for "Home Maintenan[ce/Repairs]" and a listing for "A-Housing." As shown above, "Home Maintenan[ce/Repairs]" is a sub-category of "A-Housing" in my Category structure.
In this graph I have reverted back to the original 2 level category structure and recategorized the three housing expenses as "A-Housing" > "Home Maintenance/Repairs"
I would expect the Spending Report to show only the top-level expense categories and not sub-levels separately.

@Coach Natalie Yes that's right Natalie, third level categories are rolling up to second level separate from the top level.

A fix for this issue is expected with the 4.37.0 Web Release!

@Coach Natalie It looks like now the third level categories are functioning like a second level category on the spending reports. For example, I made a paydown on a student loan last month and have the tiers set up as 1. Education, 2. Student Loan, 3. split between Student Loan Principal & Student Loan Interest. Before the update, this showed on the report as Student Loan as the top level and the Principal/Interest as second level. Now I'm seeing Education as top level (correct) with Principal/Interest still as second level (incorrect) instead of Student Loan as second level. I looked at a couple other categories where I set up the third level and am seeing the same behavior on those as well. Could you or others here confirm this is what they are seeing and that this is still not the expected behavior?

@Jenny T I'm seeing the same thing 🙁
Here are my top cats. This is as expected.
"A-Housing" is a top-level cat with four 2nd level sub-categories: "Property Tax," "Home Insurance," "Home Maintenance," "Utilities."
"Home Maintenance" has three 3rd level sub-categories: "Pool Service," Cleaning Service" and "Yard Service" that are now appearing at this level of the Spending report.
As @Jenny T points out this is what is expected, one more drill down level.

In 4.37, the third level categories are showing directly under the main level in Reports. It should show the second level category rollup under the main category.

Well darn. I was holding off on creating third level categories, so I guess will hold off some more. I just tested one in my file wondering if newly created ones would work, but nope. I get the same behavior reported here by Jenny, Danny and Rick.

Hey everyone, thanks for following up on this!
When reviewing the notes in the ticket, it looks like they intended to skip the 2nd level, so 3rd levels will roll up to the Parent Category in Reports. Is this what you're all seeing? If so, it sounds like someone will need to create an Idea post at this point to request that 3rd level Categories roll up to the 2nd and then the 1st level in Reports so other users can vote on it and our product team can review the request.
I hope this helps!

The behavior of the third category being rolled up to the parent level instead of the second level is counterintuitive. The idea post method will take a long time to fix this counterintuitive behavior. I naturally think the third level category rolls to the 2nd level, not parent. Otherwise, the third level category is behaving the same as a second level category in my view.
I understand why people are opening tickets. Thanks, @Coach Natalie for passing the information along.

Exactly. There is no real use, in my mind, for a third level category if it ends up behaving like a second level category.

FWIW, I created a feature idea as @Coach Natalie suggested.

Agree 100%. I am not using a third level category until it rolls to a second level, as expected.

Yes, for what it's worth. I'm not sure how much traction a feature request for this will get, but there it is and thanks, @RickS, for creating the feature request. I upvoted it and added some graphics in a comment just for the fun of it.
I don't have any real reason to use a third level of categorization, so this was never an issue for me and like @UrsulaA, there doesn't seem to be much reason to use a third level until/unless it is treated separately in Reports as I think would be expected.

I have to agree with the others here that I don't see much use for third level categories since it's reports that make them matter. One would expect to drill down in reports from Level I, to Level II and then to Level III. I upvoted the suggestion in hopes they change their minds.
