Where do I go to manage Payees?

Any way to manage, merge, clean up, the payee list?

I see the same payee misspelled sometimes, I need to merge a few, clean up the list overall.

But I don't see this option in the system.

Am I missing anything?

There is no payee settings in the system. To clean up payees, I use the filter and then multi-edit the transactions.

    1. Hover over and place a checkmark in the box to the left of each of the transactions you'd like to edit.
    2. Click the pencil icon at the top right of the Transaction Activity.
    3. Select which changes you'd like to apply to the transactions.
    4. Make the necessary changes and click Apply when done.

    @nrp06 ,

You can definitely clean up your Payee list, it just takes a bit of thought.

Think of it this way that the payee list is auto generated by BOTH the Payee’s assigned to individual transactions and the Payee names used for Recurring Series.

To clean up your list of Payees, you need to check BOTH locations. If you misspelled “Nika” in one of those two locations, it will show up as a suggested Payee until you find the offending transaction or series and fix it to “Nike”.

Thanks. This is bad. VERY BAD since this is VERY basic functionality.

I'm really surprised this is not available.

I did not know about editing saved payees by editing "real" payees, this is useful information. I can't use it right now, but next time I see an incorrect auto-fill, I will make use of this new-to-me knowledge.

When I want to see a payee list sourced from Simplifi, I download all the transactions in CSV format from the transaction list. Then, I use Excel (Google Sheets will work too) to create a pivot table listing all the payees on another tab. Then, I can use the list and edit Simplifi as needed using the multi-edit feature.

    This is a useful workaround.

    Thank you Ursula

But I was looking for something more.

As you know, when you buy something from, let's say, Starbucks, depending on the car you use the Payee name will come differently.

    I need the ability to:

    • List the Payees, see those that are actually the same and merge then, indicating which notation I want.
    • If possible, the system would offer to create a rule automatically to keep this notation in all transactions in the future.

If Quicken wants to check one amazing way of doing this, just open an account with LunchMoney and simply copy what they do in terms of Payee management etc.

Fair enough @nrp06 - that is why there is an idea post open, which was provided. I am just sharing the workaround I use.

You can look at the transaction list and click the Filter button to filter by Payees - there it will show you all the payees for all your transactions. If you select just the ones you want to change, it's easy to change them all, and thereby get rid of the ones you don't want. When you change just one, there's a checkbox to create a rule to rename similar ones going forward.
