Requestor to be notified when their bank add has been completed

I notice that it can take some time to get a bank added to Simplifi. I have a bank I want to add - Live Oak Bank Personal and Small Business, but the community says that they have been requesting this add for 2 years. I have made the formal request through the form in the ‘Add Bank Account’ window for this bank to be added. But 2 years is crazy. Can anyone who makes a request for a bank to be added in Simplifi, be notified by email using their account on record with Quicken when the bank has actually been added, so users don’t have to keep going back to check and bomb out? Also - It would make sense that Quicken has a strategy to prioritize these requests, with large banks or large user requests getting first response. However - can you add to the algorithm that prioritizes, something about how LONG a request has been hanging out unfilled, and add that to the weighting. I would want to think that Quicken has it’s own internal Service Level Agreement as to what is an unacceptable length of time that a customer should wait for their bank to be added, and for this deadline to drive prioritization. Thank you.

I'm not saying that Quicken shouldn't work with their connection partners or with financial institutions to make as many FI connections as possible, but I'm also wondering if you and others have reached out to your bank to ask them about making this connection possible?

Hello @FlotsAndJets,
Thanks for reaching out! We do have a great existing idea post you can vote for and follow for updates that covers what you are asking for here:
As for your specific inquiry, there are a couple of things we would like to make clear to avoid any confusion. We can't guarantee we'll be able to add support for a requested bank so there is no deadline or prioritization when creating a FI Request. Additionally, users can follow requests in the community, to be updated on changes when those requests are updated.
I hope this helps!

@DannyB - yes I have reached out to the bank. They already work with QuickBooks to have this login to the bank added - so it’s tested. It only needs to be added to Simplifi.

Hi Jon - that topic does not address the concerns I have - that of delay. It does address notification as the list would be a place to check. Why 2 years to wait for a bank to be added is considered acceptable to Intuit, I have to contest this approach. I am not getting any sense of advocacy from Customer Service, rather, there appears to be a throwing up of hands - ‘we have no control, or we have no timeline’. To me it says the voice of the consumer is not adequately being heard or is inadequately motivating to the developers.

Hello @FlotsAndJets,
Thanks for the feedback. We understand your concerns, however, we are still unable to guarantee support for a requested financial institution and cannot give out timelines to users requesting such since we do not have them to give. I do believe the idea post I shared does cover your inquiry sufficiently as it would provide a listing for users to be able to see all the requests made and their current status whenever they wish to check-in.

How about banks that show up on the list when you try to add an account, but then give an error when you actually try, so you have to contact support to find out that actually it's not supported yet?

Hello @EL1234,
Thanks for reaching out. What you mentioned would be a little different than what was discussed here in this thread. We do have a list of unsupported banks and banks blocking aggregation that you can view here:
We make sure to update this listing whenever we have new information. I hope this helps!

Coach Jon,
I do appreciate your efforts here, and yes we both reached the same understanding about the use of the document on unsupported or blocked banks as a resource for customers. I am impressed with the amount of guidance that is provided users who struggle connecting their bank. It is clearly a place where uniform industry standards could help everyone, AND improve security at the same time.
While we wait for skinflinty banks to invest more effectively in interoperability, could the link to this document be added to the Add Account/Bank page and uses be pointed there under the prompt for ‘Can’t find your institution?’ And this document come up more directly in the help menu for the Add Account function?
Finally - should I be pressing my bank for OAuth ApI use with Simplifi? Would that help make this happen? Also - because I know that Intuit on the QuickBooks side of the house HAS successfully added Live Oak that there are no barriers technically to connecting? Or are you saying that QuickBooks and Simplifi are not unified in their designs to allow what QuickBooks team knows to be implemented on the Simplifi team? Maybe Customer Service could use a little creative competition to set the two teams toward matching programming prowess? As in - “Gee the QuickBooks team can get this done, so how about it Simplifi developers?”0 -
Quickbooks is made by Intuit, which is a separate entity from Quicken. Quicken Classic, Deluxe, etc. and Quicken Simplifi are under the same umbrella.
Coaches can elaborate on more of your questions.

@UrsulaA You are right, thank you. I did some research and Quicken was sold by Intuit in 2016. It used to be broadly marketed as ‘Intuit Quicken’, so that is how I know it. Still - QuickBooks can do it and Quicken can’t. That’s the bottom line.

Thanks for the link! It's frustrating though to see bank available in the list, so that it looks like it should work until you try and fuss with it and see that it doesn't.
When this happened to me, I had to chat with support to be told that the bank is currently not supported. (Incidentally, it's not on the list you linked to.)
It means that there's no easy way to check if a bank is now supported without trying it periodically. Which is why it would be helpful if there was a way to sign up to be notified when a specific bank is now supported.

My take-away from this discussion is that Quicken is unwilling to invest in adequate software development to support the timely adding of banks that can sync with Simplifi. It makes no sense to me that a business model would not be triaging/prioritizing bank adds if there is a queue for them to be added. I’m not sure that Quicken cares what we think - otherwise why not demonstrate to us in a report, the history of bank adds annually, so we can see that at least SOME investment in bank adds is made over time. Adding banks is overhead for Quicken. The only way to motivate the development investment, I guess, (other than good business ethics) is to show there are enough people willing to leave Simplifi because it has not effectively responded to consumer needs.

I don't know if this is STILL the case, but historically ADDING banks involved THE BANKS THEMSELVES applying to be included AND THE BANKS THEMSELVES PAYING A FEE TO BE INCLUDED, and I believe the banks have to provide DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT, such as, for example, a sample login account so the developers can actually access the bank's website (they don't have accounts at every bank in the world), and have some idea what transactions look like in the bank's website when it scrapes it or whatever.
@Coach Natalie used to share a link to Intuit's service that you could share with your bank and ask them to apply — but now, I know Quicken supports more than just the Intuit connection (for example, some people have Plaid accounts, or maybe Fincity).

Thanks @RobWilk - I’ve been in touch with my bank. Customer service can say little. What they did say was that Quicken Inc. uses a different security methodology (possibly security encryption, handshake or API interface) than my bank. (Live Oak Bank Personal Accounts). I would be happy to pass on to Live Oak, any information as to how to apply to Quicken, but from what I understood, they were aware of the limitations between the systems, and evidently had investigated it from their end.
What I hate in this scenario @CoachJon, is that the customer does not have the ability to put leverage on the pressure points at either Simplifi or at the bank to encourage this to happen. We are not given enough information to encourage the entities to play nice with each other and to serve the customer.

Hello @FlotsAndJets,
I can definitely understand your frustration. I know Quicken Simplifi is constantly adding and updating new connections for different financial institutions on a pretty consistent basis. We do try to make sure that most banks are available to be connected to. In your case, I can see that you already voted for the FI Request thread for Live Oak Bank but I will share it here in case any other users want to vote for it to be added.
Thank you for your feedback,
Coach Jon
