Moving a transaction to a future date disappears and does not generate a reminder

Hi - I hope someone can help me with this. I've been trying to date transactions is the future to account for the date in which they accrue. For example, I purchase a flight in Jan but I will only be flying on May, so I would change the date of the transaction to a future date and expect to get a reminder associated with the transaction on based on this article.
My efforts have been in vain, and I cannot see to find the transaction nor the reminder based on the new future date. Can someone explain if I am doing something wrong here or it is a bug?

Your situation is similar to the ones raised in the discussions linked below. Maybe something there will help you.

But I doubt it. QS is, at root, a checkbook-type system with some additional capabilities. Its transactions primarily represent money going in and out of (or between) accounts. It isn't really designed for accrual accounting.

Yes, changing the date of a transaction to a future date should create a Reminder card in Projected Cash Flow and Bills & Income. However, like the bug reported here, I noticed that this is not occurring:

Like the bug when importing future-dated transactions, I see the dot in the Projected Cash Flow graph, but there is no Reminder card created to edit or delete the transaction. The only place I was able to find it was in the Spending Plan. I have reported this additional behavior with editing the date of an existing transaction and will post back with updates!

Thanks Natalie. I didn't realize the transactions can be found in the Spending Plan when they are associated with a planned spending category. At least now I can easily find future dated transactions!
Looking forward to the fix on the reminders

@Coach Natalie Wanted to add to this thread to say that I too would like to be able to set the dates of transactions for the same type of use case originally described in this post. I just changed the dates of two transactions associated with concerts later in the year, but I cannot even find the transactions in the Spending Plan for that future month. So the transactions have essentially disappeared. Eager to hear if the team has made any progress on this front.

Hi Natalie, thank you for the update. I just lost my most recent mortgage transaction, so my spending plan is now wrong, etc. For now, what is the remedy to get it back? Is it really gone? And if so, do I make a manual transaction to replace it? Or will it come back on the future date I changed it to?

Yes and no. I saw the blue banner on the left hand side of the screen saying that a reminder had been made (I changed the date on the transaction from Oct 29 to Nov 1). But when I go into the spending plan, it is not there. And it is no longer in transactions. I can't find it anywhere.

In that case, it sounds like you are not experiencing the issue outlined in this thread, as users here are able to:

Locate the transaction in the Spending Plan
See a dot for the reminder in Projected Cash Flow, just no actual reminder

If you are unable to locate the transaction anywhere, I would recommend recreating it or waiting until the date the transaction occurs to see if it shows up. However, if you are unable to even locate it in November's Spending Plan, you may have experienced a one-time glitch where the transaction didn't save at all.

If you are still unable to locate the future-dated transaction, I would recommend creating a separate post to outline and report the separate issue so troubleshooting can ensue.

Agree. Maybe related but not the same. Luckily, the date I changed it to is tomorrow, so I'll see if it reappears tomorrow. If not, I'll just replace it manually and hope it was a one-time anomaly. And I'll watch for when the bug referenced above is fixed so that I can forward-date transactions for the spending plan. Thank you again for your help.

I ran into this bug this week. My wife is on a chorus trip and I get pending transactions for her hotel. The amounts are always much larger than the final amount.

I got one on Saturday and I moved it to Tuesday (the day she returns). It showed up in Spending Plan but the reminder didn't show up in the account or in Bills & Income. I deleted the pending transaction and entered it manually and it showed up. Today I finalized it and changed the amount to the what it will be.

I got another pending Hotel transaction today, so I did the same thing with the same result. I did it this time in the iPhone app and it told me it turned it into a reminder but once again the reminder doesn't show up except in the Spending Plan.

I’m surprised to see that the issue with future-dated transactions disappearing has been acknowledged as a bug for going on a year now. This is a basic part of budgeting software, and it makes the experience feel unreliable.

At this point, users deserve a clear explanation and a realistic timeline for a fix.
