Unable to delete business categories after downgrading to a personal-only subscription

    @Coach Tara I also upgraded from plain Simplifi to QBP and then back to plain Simplifi. I never posted to any of the business categories that were automatically added by Quicken and based on the mandatory list, there are many that should be deletable. By refresh, I assume that means to sign out of Simplifi, close the browser. After signing back in, I do not have the Delete option on any of the many business categories.

    Although I don't have a QBP dataset that was downgraded to regular Quicken Simplifi, in checking the business categories in my QBP dataset, I see that most can be deleted. I would assume that this ability would carry over to a personal-only dataset if switched, just as the Business Categories will.

    However, as mentioned by Coach Tara above, some business categories are required and cannot be deleted. Would you mind clarifying which particular business categories you're unable to delete currently? Are there any that can be deleted?

    @Coach Natalie I have 90 categories under Business and I am not able to delete any of them on web or mobile. These were all added by Quicken and there are no associated transactions.

    @RickS, thanks for confirming!

    I'm wondering if the ability to delete business categories was just added to QBP. I think you will need to contact our Chat Support Team directly for more advanced assistance with this. They should be able to switch you to QBP to see if you are then able to delete the categories, and then switch you back to the personal-only version. They can also file the limitation as an issue if it proves to be true.

    @Coach Natalie I connected with the Chat Support Team after I read @Coach Tara post and was not able to delete any business categories after switching back to personal. I chatted with Coach Alejandro and his final response wasRichard, it has been mentioned that if you are not able to do it, it is because unfortunately that option is not available.Besides this is there anything else I can do for you?

    @Coach Natalie I see that I can add an attachment and attached is the chat with Coach Alejandro. If you would be so kind to check if someone can assist me in converting back to QBP, test deletion and convert back to personal, I would be most appreciative.

    @RickS, did you ask them to switch you to QBP to see if you can delete the business categories, and then switch you back once done? We can't manage memberships here in the Community, so Chat Support will need to try this for you. I would suggest reaching back out and sharing this thread with my suggestion of what to try.

    Let me know if you continue to have problems and I will see what I can do from my end to have someone contact you.

    @Coach Natalie I did as you suggested and the chat coach indicated that I have a subscription through Apple and he could not refresh subscription as a result. Attached is chat transcript for reference.

    @RickS, ahh, that makes more sense! The only ones who can manage Apple subscriptions is Apple.

    I have reached out for further clarification on whether users lose the ability to delete most business categories when downgrading to personal-only. I will let you know what I find out! It's too bad that we can't do the testing by switching your subscription, but that's ok! I should have an answer for you soon.

    @RickS, I was advised that the ability to delete business categories should not be removed when downgrading.

    To clarify, the business categories that cannot be deleted are:

    • Business Income
    • Business Expense Income
    • Discounts Given
    • Markup
    • Tip Income
    • Commissions & Fees
    • Processing Fees
    • Office Expenses
    • Postage & Shipping
    • Other Expenses
    • Bad Debt

    I want to confirm that the issue resides outside of those mandatory categories. Thanks!

    @Coach Natalie The chat coach did test in both QBP and personal on his end and did get the Delete option on business categories. You can see in the chat transcript his screenshots.

    @RickS, to clarify, Chat Support is separate from the Community. I reviewed the chat interaction the first time you shared it, and although reviewing a chat interaction may be insightful, it is not something we'd utilize to troubleshoot or escalate an issue from the Community.

    With that, since the ability to delete business categories should not be removed when downgrading, what you are seeing is likely a bug. We can escalate the issue here in the Community, but first need you to confirm that the issue resides outside of the required business categories that were outlined above. If it does, we would need to gather specific data and proof of the issue from you to file a bug report.

    Otherwise, you are welcome to contact Chat Support again to pick up where you left off with them.

    @Coach Natalie I contacted Apple subscription support and they also said they have no access to the subscription, only billing (chat transcription attached). Quicken Chat Support wanted to refresh the subscription to see if that solved the issue but was not able to because the subscription was through Apple. Yes, let's escalate it here through the Community.

    Before we proceed with data gathering, can you please confirm that the business categories you are unable to delete are not included in the list I sent above?

    Since you mentioned that there are around 90 categories you can't delete, I imagine this is not the case, but since the list was provided today by our product team, we need to be sure. Please provide screenshots of a few example business categories that are not included in that list, with the menu open so we can see that the "delete" option is missing.

    @Coach Natalie I received same list in my chats with Quicken and correct, I have 90 and the delete option does not appear on any of the 90 when I click the three dots. Attached are a few screenshots of categories not on the list that only Edit appears with the three dots. Thanks for your interest with helping on this.

    Yes, I can definitely see that you only have the "edit" option, and that the issue is impacting non-required business categories. To file a bug report for this issue, please provide the following additional data:

    1. The browser and browser version you're accessing the Quicken Simplifi Web App from.
    2. The OS of the computer you're accessing the Quicken Simplifi Web App from.

    Please also submit your logs via the 'Send Feedback' option:

    1. Log into the Quicken Simplifi Web App.
    2. Select Profile from the left-hand navigation bar.
    3. With the Profile menu open, hold down the Option key for Mac or the Alt key for Windows, and then click Send Feedback
    4. Leave all boxes checked, add a brief description of the issue, and then click Send.

    Hi Coach Natalie - In case it is of any use I'd like to report that when using QBP I was unable to delete the many standard business categories (that are not in the "undeletable" list you supplied). So I believe that having RickS return to QBP will not be of any use.

    Speaking for myself, having all those useless categories pop up every time I did a category search drove me nuts, so I downgraded to regular Simplifi like RickS did even though other functions in QBP would be of value to me.

    Hope this info is useful, and will provide incentive to make the extraneous categories in QBP deletable.

    @Coach Natalie Safari 18.4 web app 45.2.1 MacOS 15.4 and also on mobile app 5.27.1 iOS 18.4 I have also tried on Edge browser 134.0.3124.93 W11 Pro 24H2 and also installed Chrome on Mac with same results.

    @RickS, thank you for the reply!

    I received another update from our product team, and apparently, the ability to delete business categories on a personal-only subscription is not available, so they would not consider this a bug. I apologize for the misinformation yesterday.

    My best suggestion at this point is to wait until you are closer to the end of your current Apple Subscription, and then subscribe directly through us. Once done, Chat Support can change you back to QBP so you can delete the business categories, and then switch you back to personal-only again.

    Otherwise, I'd recommend creating an Idea post here in the Community to request the ability to delete business categories after downgrading to a personal-only subscription:

    The last thing I can offer is to delete your Quicken Simplifi dataset so you can start completely over from scratch. However, this option would lose all of your current data, and you would be starting fresh.

    @Coach Natalie Thanks for working on this. The Quicken chat coach yesterday sent screenshots showing the delete option for non-mandatory business categories from both business & personal and personal. Nonetheless, I'll save this for when current subscription with Apple expires.

    @RickS, it sounds like they've identified that some datasets can delete the business categories, and some can't after downgrading. They have asked me once again to go ahead and file a bug ticket for your case. I have everything I need to do so, but they did ask me to gather a little more data from you to understand the process you went through when changing your subscription:

    • When and how did you initially upgrade to QBP?
    • When and how did you downgrade to personal-only?

    @Coach Natalie I started with Simplifi personal with a Quicken.com subscription. I let that subscription expire and renewed with an Apple subscription which maintained the dataset. I then upgraded to QBP with a Quicken.com subscription and when I realized that everything I needed was covered in Simplifi personal, I had Quicken cancel that subscription within the trial period. Afterwards, dataset reverted back to the Apple subscription already in force.
