Transfer linked to transaction from last month (edited)

I just had this happen again. A new transaction dated 2/20 was linked to a transaction from January. Not only that, the January transaction was NOT categorized as a TRANSFER (which I usually consider a holding place until the other side of a transfer comes through), it was recategorized by me as Income.
I would certainly request that transactions only link to those that are categorized as a transfer. And maybe also transactions that are not marked as Reviewed.

Hello @EL1234,
Thank you for letting us know this is still happening. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Are you seeing this in the mobile app, the web app, or both? Have you tried logging out of the app, then logging back in?
I look forward to your response!

Hi @Coach Kristina
This was on the web app. I don't use the mobile app. I didn't try logging out and back in, I didn't think that would change anything. I already fixed the transaction but when I try again to recategorize it as a transfer to the right account, it does the same thing again.
I just logged out and back in and then tried again and it does the same thing again (links a 2/20 transfer to a 1/27 income transaction instead of creating a new transaction for the other side of the transfer).

@EL1234, thanks for the reply!
Since Quicken Simplifi is designed to look for Linked Transfers, it sounds like this is what you're running into. I would recommend deleting and recreating the incorrectly linked transaction to see if that allows you to create the one in the other account. I was able to do this by:
- Marking the existing Linked Transfer as 'Uncategorized', which made both sides uncategorized and essentially unlinked them
- Deleting the new transaction that was downloaded and linked automatically, which is now uncategorized
- Manually creating a new transaction with the details of the one I just deleted
- In the Category field, select the other account, and Quicken Simplifi should prompt you to create the transfer on the other side, as expected
- You can then go back to the transaction from last month, which should still be uncategorized, and change it back to your income category
I realize it's a bit of a workaround, but it worked for me. You also have the option of using the "Transfer" category instead of a Linked Transfer. With the "Transfer" category, you can manually enter the transaction into the other account, and you won't be locked into linking it to another transaction or anything along those lines.

Thanks for the steps @Coach Natalie
Since the correct other side of the transfer already downloaded, I can fix this in fewer steps. I just wanted to report it so that perhaps you can fix it going forward, as this keeps on happening. Transfers should not automatically link to transactions from a month (or two) ago that were given an income category and marked as reviewed.

@EL1234, I agree that Linked Transfers can be wonky, and it's frustrating that the program forces it rather than asking if you'd like to make the link.
I see that you posted to one of the Idea posts I mentioned above. If you want to create an Idea post specifically for not automatically linking transfers that were given a non-transfer category and have been marked as reviewed, please feel free to do so!
This will allow our product team to gauge how many users would like to see the change made to the current system and review specific use cases.
Thank you!
