p.s. I totally get wanting to hide investments, the market is horrible right now, it's probably embarrassingly low. The NASDAQ since February went from around 20,000 to around 15,000 or about a 25% decline.. i heard nvidia was down 44% from its high yesterday.

Here's another use case for hiding accounts:

I have some oil royalty interest accounts under Assets with the balance equal to the cost basis of the asset. When I sell an asset, the proceeds are split between the cost basis asset account (not taxable) and capital gains (taxable). This works well come tax time, when it is easy to see how the proceeds should be categorized.

But… once that tax year is in the books I most likely never again need to see that account. I want to keep it around to document how the taxes were handled, so I don't want to delete it. But I don't need it cluttering up the accounts listing sidebar.

"Hiding" would be perfect for this scenario.

@DryHeat if you can 'close' those accounts (i.e. you're not using them again) there is a way on the dashboard settings to 'hide closed accounts'. Not sure if that would do what you need, but you implied once the tax year was up you might not need the accounts again.

That sounds like a good solution. I've read that if you close an account you can't open it again. But I'm not sure what that means in terms of making changes to the account.

As I said, I "most likely" won't need to touch the account again. But I could end up having to make some adjusting entries (including transfers) later — that happens on occasion as new numbers roll in. If I close the account will I still be able to do that?

I believe I noticed if you mark an account closed, it is removed from the "Transfer" category, so it might not let you modify it further.

There was a separate idea, though, to let you reopen a closed account. That also has 60 votes :

You may want to vote for that idea too, @DryHeat, as it would let you hide and unhide accounts via another metehod.

+1 here. It doesn't seem hard at all to add an option in the account settings called something like "Hide in Dashboard". That will help clean-up my view and also as someone else said show the software to another person without showing certain things you want to keep private.
