Using splits (multiple categories) in Recurring Transactions (4 Merged Votes)

(I thought I would add this comment here, in addition to the DM, to make sure it is part of the mix.)
The slippery part is making recurring splits work with the Spending Plan.
Ideally, a recurring split transaction for a "paycheck" would show up in the Spending Plan as follows (using the example of a paycheck with deductions for taxes and health insurance):
- Gross amount split - appears under Spending Plan | Income
- Tax split - appears under Spending Plan | Bills
- Health insurance split - appears under Spending Plan | Bills
At the start of the month when I look at my Spending Plan,
- I want the Spending Plan | Income section to reflect my actual predicted gross income from upcoming recurring transactions (not the income after deductions).
- And I want the expenses that will be paid from those upcoming recurring transactions to show up under Spending Plan | Bills.
Where the amount shows up in Spending Plan should be based on the type of Category for the individual split (Income or Expense), not on whether the whole transaction ends up being positive or negative.

Title: Add Split Category Support to Recurring Transactions
Hello Simplifi Community,
I'm a longtime Quicken Classic for Mac (Business & Personal) user who has been exploring Simplifi, and I'd like to add my voice to the growing request for split categories in recurring transactions.
In Quicken Classic, I have a recurring monthly transaction that is split across 17+ categories — covering property expenses (Rent, HOA, Electricity, Water & Sewer), auto (insurance, car wash, EV charging), food (groceries, dining), bills (Internet/TV, cell phone, streaming subscriptions), entertainment, and business expenses. This single recurring entry handles the entire breakdown automatically each month, which is a massive time-saver and ensures consistent categorization.
In Simplifi, I can manually split a transaction after it posts, but there is no way to save that split structure as a recurring template. This means I have to re-enter the same 17+ category splits from scratch every single month — which defeats a core purpose of a personal finance tool: reducing repetitive manual work.
My specific request:
• Allow recurring transactions (both manual and auto-detected) to save and carry split category breakdowns
• Ideally, allow users to create a named "split template" that can be applied to any transactionThis would be especially valuable for users who:
— Have rental property expenses bundled in one payment
— Receive a paycheck or reimbursement that needs consistent allocation across categories
— Pay a single bill that covers multiple services or budget categoriesI understand this has been requested before and is under review. I'm adding my vote and my real-world use case in hopes of helping move it forward. This feature, more than almost any other, would make Simplifi a viable replacement for Quicken Classic for complex household and small business budgeting.
Thank you for considering it!

Hello @majormotion,
Thank you for sharing your feedback! There is already an existing Idea for part of what you're asking for: [removed link to merged thread]
Since it's already in progress, voting is closed, but you're still welcome to post a comment to that discussion to show you'd like to see it added also.
Thank you!

I have to say … that is amazing!
How in the world were you able to set things up so that a single payment transaction handles so many different kinds of expenses?
(I know it's none of my business, but it's hard for me to even imagine how such a thing could be organized.)

Maybe it was a transfer from a savings account to a non-linked checking account? With the splits covering the various budget categories for a month's-worth of expenses… that's the first thing that comes to mind.

And if you looked at Coach Kristina's post, you will see that Quicken Simplifi promises that Splits in Recurring transactions "will be available soon".

We ARE working on this and soon is getting sooner. I expect to start our Early Access in the next month.
If anyone wants a sneak peak to confirm that our first version will meet their needs, please DM me and we can schedule something.5 -
Simplifi definitely needs the ability to have splits on recurring transactions. For payroll checks and mortgage payments, it is pretty basic and a fundamental oversight by Quicken. Let's hope it is resolved in April. How do we get to Early Access?
