Balance Issues with Citi (edited)

@Coach Natalie I didn’t see you post a bug report I.d. Number as you usually would. I think you use that to find the post to post updates when the report status changes. Just making sure you are aware of this just in case it was accidental

After 2 days of being accurate, today we're not.
I had 3 pending transactions in this checking account yesterday, 2 cleared my bank overnight.
One that cleared is a utility charge for $34.14. If it matters, this transaction was downloaded not manually entered.
This checking account shows a balance with pending $34.14 lower than the true and correct amount.
Simplifi is counting the $34.15 twice.
Will Simplifi always have this problem of often wrong but sometimes right?

The problem was just recently reported. Meaning a bug has been filed, i believe, for the first time in the last day or two. They're usually good about getting bugs fixed, but i would say it could take anywhere from a week to a few months to get fixed depending on the priority and how quickly they can fix it. (Note: bugs involving specific financial institutions can take longer because they're handled mostly by 3rd parties, where bugs in core functions of the app can be faster which i think this is). I would consider this a priority issue myself, but the more examples they have that prove this is a problem the better they can emphasize the problem to the 'product team'.

Rob Wilkens1 -
I see, so this is a new issue. Thanks @RobWilk
In my case, this will probably resolve in a few hours at the next refresh, which makes it even more puzzling.

It looks like when it syncs to the bank, if there -were- pending transactions, it holds aside (the number at the top right) the pending amount from the balance. It should match that amount to an existing transaction (pending), and when that pending transaction is cleared it should stop holding that money aside from the balance. It looks like that whole process is delayed, I'm guessing, until the second or third bank sync after it clears - where bank syncs happen at most every 4-6 hours and only when you log in. That's how i see it so far and from reading other's reports. I have no insider info though.

@TheReal702, if you'd like to be added to the ticket for this issue, you'll need to provide the info that was requested earlier in this thread:
Thank you!

Chiming in, as I've reported this issue twice, the first of which Natalie had responded to. I've reported it again.
It's frustratingly simple: if Simplif gets a balance update, but the transaction that come (or don't come) don't add up to the difference between the new balance and the old balance, then don't update the balance. Or have an option for the account (you already have a reported/projected option) So add a third that's "calculated", which just does the math, which will always be correct if starting from an established balance, which is literally what ever other accounting program does.

Exactly my issue with my bank. I think they will get it fixed but it might help if you send in your logs and the info Coach Natalie requested to be added to the ticket.
My balance was wrong at 5am but corrected at 9am when I opened Simplifi again. My expectation is that it will be wrong in the morning but correct during the late morning. Then with the banks being closed Veterans' Day, it probably won't show up again until Tuesday or Wednesday for me when I again get cleared transaction.
I hate bugs, but at least I expect it now, and know it will fix itself. Thanks for adding additional evidence!

4 hours later at 830am a refresh resolved my issue of this morning at 430am.
Checking account is now accurate, and balance with pending now matches.

Again.
- Amazon | 0-30% | $2000
2.
3. Not pending
4. Not Pending
5. $6.86
6. (credit balance due to rewards, but different than simplifi's balance)
7. They are downloaded and clear, so $6.86, but not correct, remember this is the issue:
8. It was incorrect this morning, might be correct in 4-6 hours..

Rob Wilkens0 -
Again, to illustrate once more this is not financial institution specific:
- PenFed PSR |17.99%|12.5k
- this:
3. No, cleared
4. No, cleared
5. This:
Because:
6. this:
7. $22.99 right now but in 4-6 hours it might be $0
8. Incorrect now, but in 4-6 hours at next refresh it will likely be right ($0).

Rob Wilkens0 -
Do we yet understand that this is NOT financial institution specific and IS a general problem with the app itself? It's time to post this as an alert and acknowledge the issue more generally.
EDIT: If it's not an app problem, it may be a general problem with the intuit connectors (as opposed to plaid/fincity connections, as i have none of those)
—
Rob Wilkens1 -
How do you know which connectors your accounts are using?

I had this issue earlier today with my Chase checking account (two cleared transactions were included in the pending tooltip) and it just resolved itself.
I am pretty sure that this debunks the theory that with Chase you can't rely on balances to be correct over the weekend.

doesn’t debunk the theory, separate issues.
—
Rob Wilkens0 -
Except that now my balance displays correctly…?
0 -
do you manually enter transactions? If not, you’re not affected by the chase issues.
—
Rob Wilkens0 -
I do, not all transactions, only for checks that I write.

Mine is still acting up. Sometimes it's accurate first thing in the morning, sometimes not. Seems to be accurate mid morning, so I've adjusted to it. Clearly it's not just me. Fingers crossed that they'll figure it out someday.

correction, only if you manually enter transactions that are reflected in bank balance. Basically, with chase (and this is off topic), it downloads updated balances properly on off hours but it does not download transactions so let’s say you withdrew $100 at an atm, the updated balance will be downloaded plus if you manually entered the withdrawal it won’t be matched to a bank transaction so it will additionally subtract the manual $100. This is similar to this issue, but with this issue it corrects on the 2nd sync, whereas chase will be wrong until it syncs during banking hours.

Rob Wilkens0 -
Thanks for the explanation! I am not sure if I've seen this yet but will keep an eye out.
The first time I saw the issue that this thread is talking about, it was on a weekend so I thought it was that issue but now I see that they are separate.

Same here, what I've been doing is compare the pending transactions (I check them off to get a quick total) to what it shows in the tooltip. If it doesn't match I've got a "Balance Adjustment" transaction that I keep pending with the amount 0, I'll change that amount to counteract the problem transactions so that I can still look at my cash flow. It's a little annoying but as long as I remember to keep that transaction updated, it seems to be okay. For now… I hope they fix this soon!

@RobWilk, we went ahead and created an Alert for this issue, so please follow it for updates moving forward instead:
For anyone else that still wants to be added to the ticket, you may do so by providing the requested info.

@Coach Natalie As a new guy here, please help me understand the purpose of getting added to the ticket. If something gets fixed, isn't it fixed for everyone?
1 -
@TheReal702, adding more users allows us to show our teams that the issue is widespread and impacting multiple people and banks. Also, since we don't know the cause of the issue yet, we can't confirm a global resolution at this time.
I hope this helps clarify!

Ah, OK. I get it now, thanks.
