Chase balance is incorrect (edited)

That is my thinking, yes. But the only account I have that doesn't download pending is Capital One. And I don't see as many problems with bank downloads in Classic, and it doesn't download pending at all.
So in Classic, I put in all the pending transactions and they are subtracted in the running total. I can see the online balance in the upper corner. The only problem detected in Classic is when the bank balance doesn't match (with auto-reconcile). It will inform me of this, and this happens mainly with Capital One and Chase when they update the balance ahead of clearing the pending (usually a few hours). I can fix it immediately by clearing the pending and reconciling.

"However, for Rob's sake, I do hope that whatever is going on gets worked out soon."
Don't worry about me .. i'm adapting to the reality that i need to check the bank balance regularly at the bank site itself.. \
[edited out off topic portion - Rob]
I would worry more about distracting from the main point of this topic, but there is an official understanding of what needs to happen here so really we're talking for no real reason about it, they don't need or want new examples or descriptions, they think they understand it, and until they say they think they addressed it, they don't need to hear more from us.

@DannyB Well, Capital One Checking did it to me today. It downloaded a cleared transaction this morning for $150, and voilà, it is going to subtract it again. I unmerged it from the pending and deleted the pending (I've done this before), and as usual it makes no difference.
It will be right next time.

Perhaps i've had very few transactions on the weekend, but so far, most of saturday, and now sunday morning, the balance has been perfect for all accounts (as far as I can tell).

Not for me. Friday was payday, and Simplifi subtracted the paycheck Friday while it was pending and showed a negative balance. Then on Saturday it double counted the new paycheck by adding it to the balance form from the bank that already included it as cleared. This is such a rollercoaster I cannot trust simplifi anymore

Hello @bost.05,
There is currently a Community Alert for the issue with pending balances impacting the balance you see in Quicken Simplifi. If you haven't already done so, please bookmark the link below, since any updates, once available, will be posted to that alert. If you do not see the bookmark icon at the upper right, please make sure you are logged into the Community.
Thank you!

@Coach Jon or @Coach Natalie —- I do understand that we are waiting (apparently) for Chase to fix their balance issues. But there is a separate and well understood by the users issue I want to make sure gets communicated as a non-chase issue.
Right now, for example, my chase checking account is showing:
$39.98 pending — That pending number does not come from the bank, it comes from the simplifi manual/pending transactions
But there is only one manual pending transaction at the moment which is exactly half that amount:
So please, make sure someone in engineering or product team is aware (i know i have no say) that pending transaction amount is not always being properly counted. This number does not come from the bank, again. The banks' balance with/without pending is a separate issue on top of this one.

Yup. And I replicated this issue with Capital One today (or a similar one where a formerly pending transaction is still counted in the tooltip).

This morning I got the other Chase Bug. $200 in my Amazon Visa cleared on the site but didn't clear in Simplifi. So it showed me owing $200 more. I got around it by clearing the $200, which I assume will b fixed in the next download. It's the opposite of double counting pending. It's what I often get from Capital One. But it is not Simplifi b/c same thing happened in Classic. Classic notified me of the discrepancy in auto-reconcile, so I reconciled it manually there.
But I agree, we need to fix the Simplifi double counting of Pending first.
Update: and at 930am, another download fixed it.

My Chase Credit Card account does not exhibit this problem, at least this weekend. There are three pending transactions, but the effective balance is correct in Quicken Simplifi. I'm new to Chase credit cards (since using Simplifi), so it's unclear if there has ever been a problem with Chase credit cards.
The problem I knew primarily involved Chase Checking/Savings accounts. But now, I'm testing it again this weekend to see if it works properly. I did a test transfer of $50 between Chase accounts. In 4-10 hours, I should know whether the problem still exists or if this is fixed now, too (which would be terrific).

I have seen it with Chase cards, it seems to be a timing thing. When a pending charge flips to real charge, for a few hours it can be double counted in the card balance in Simplifi. Usually I wouldn't even notice because we're talking about $50 charges and whatnot and I'm not THAT fussed about my exact balance just about making sure all the charges are there. But I replaced my roof recently so that made it real noticeable when the charge doubled on the balance. When this happens a few hours later it resolves itself.
Timing is similar in the bank account from what I have seen.

@Wedo778 It is believed by some here that the double counting pending problem is fixed as of sometime in the past week— they reported it as an identified bug in simplifi (not bank specific) and may have fixed it (I think they want to be sure before they change the alert). The report of the identified bug was 4 days ago here :
The timing issue, which is where outside of banking hours, pending transactions would not download, but balances from the bank would reflect pending; I have a feeling "may" also be fixed as of this weekend (it's really too early to say). They said chase was working on a fix, and I can tell you the transaction i did earlier today would normally "break things" with the balance, and so far, as of the next sync, the balance is still right.

My chase account was showing the wrong balance friday morning but seems to be good since then. But that might have been the chase issue, not the general issue, since if I remember correctly, the tooltip was correct even though the balance was wrong.

@RobWilk Thanks I hadnt paid attention to that thread. The recent transaction I am referring to was on the 12th, where I still saw the pending-double-count issue. Log in when I wake up, double counted. Check in after lunch, correct balance. I'll keep an eye out to see if it happens next time.

I noticed at 6:18am ET:
-For the credit card at least, it did download a new transaction that happened in early morning hours (previously, with the checking account, I'd have to wait for banking hours)
-I believe an Apple Card credit happened overnight in my checking account and -that- downloaded. That wasn't happening previously.
-The balance for my chase credit card was wrong, but
-The balance for the credit card was -also- wrong on the Chase Website, that is last night, with the same pending transactions (apart from a $7.20 charge) there was a credit balance of over $200 showing on the Chase website last night. Right now chase is showing a $0 balance, which is significantly different than last night. I think some charges that were pending are no longer pending but are showing as pending. That would make sense.
-The credit card on the Chase website is NOT showing a running balance column which I really don't like. I get that Simplifi can't do that, but I would prefer if Chase did.
I'm not convinced this is a Simplifi problem because the balance appears wrong on the Chase website.
EDIT: It looks like the Dec. 13 (Friday?) chaarges are still showing as pending, but they're being treated by Chase as cleared — Available credit and balance seems to reflect that. This, again, is a Chase problem, not Simplifi.
EDIT: As of 7:30am Chase website is still wrong.
EDIT: Just after 8am, Chase website is STILL wrong, I suspect after 9am ET it will correct. By correct, I mean the Dec. 13 charges should be mark cleared. The online $0 balance would then be correct.
EDIT: Post-9am, Chase website is still factoring in Dec. 13 pending transactions, but showing them as pending. At this point, I reached out to Chase directly to see if they can explain how I'm supposed to figure out which transactions are already in the balance.
EDIT: Simplifi Checking balance is also wrong, it was right most of the weekend, but this morning it's showing more money than i have in it,
EDIT: Checked Chase at 10:40am ET and NOW those transactions are marked cleared, they were factored into the balance by at least 6am.

@SRC54 Regarding your deleted comment about not using credit cards — I mostly use them for (1) rewards, and (2) protection. For example, if I were to use a debit card, I have far less fraud protection — and temporary authorizations would affect my checking account available balance.

I know. One of the reasons I deleted it. When I buy big ticket items I use them too for same reasons you mention.

I, reluctantly, am sharing the message I just sent to Chase (typos and all) after my initial reply just resulted in them explaining that some transactions weren't clear yet:
No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying yesterday morning, (Monday), between 6am and 9:15am when I checked, the balance shown presumed the following transactions had cleared: -Planet Fitness $25.05 -IntituteEL $150.99 -T-Mobile $84,.70 But they weren't marked cleared in the register until when I checked at 10:40am. So between 6-9:15am I had no way of knowing officially whether those transactions were clear but they were showing in the balance. This seems to happen everyday with pending transactions. Today, right now it is showing a $7.20 credit balance, so I have to assume the following transactions are now clear: -Disney+ $7.75 -Payment $14.95 and the following did not yet clear: -Dreamhost $7.20 But right now all three transactions are showing as PENDING still, I presume by around 10:40am Disney+ and thed payment willl show as clear. This is particularly a problem because my financial software (Quicken Simplifi) uses this data and in the early morning hours gives me wrong balances as a result. Is there a reason for the delay between a transaction clearing in the balance and being marked as cleared on the website? Thanks Rob

Rob Wilkens0 -
Right after I wrote that, I was signed out, and when i signed back in, Disney+ and the payment were now clear (7:45am).

Today, a deposit overnight is
-showing in transactions (downloaded as pending)
-but not in balance
-Also, it's not factored in tooltip pending, but in general the tooltip pending seems to ignore pending downloaded from the bank for this account (maybe that's the problem?).

My (Chase) pending tooltip is missing one of the pending transactions that downloaded from the bank (and wasn't a manual transaction beforehand).

I wasn't going to post again about Chase Credit Card since I think Chase just needs to fix this, and if they don't soon, I shall cut the card in two. But I can see exactly what is wrong. My local bank fixed their problem with counting formerly pending transactions last week.
Anyhow, my Credit Card balance is 0.00. All of the pending transactions have cleared. But Chase UPDATES the BALANCE before clearing the transactions. In Classic, I merely mark them clear. In Simplifi, I normally do the same, but it won't work today because it is still counting yesterday's cleared transaction of 28.03. Of course, later today, it will all be correct.

@SRC54 Yes, I'm seeing this today in Chase for example (where payments made that are pending are in the balance)… I already tried chatting with Chase via messages yesterday, and they assured me transactions are cleared in real time,' but i think they mean in the balance and not in the transactions.
in fact, looking at the register of my checking account (specifically, running balance column), I can confirm that pending transactions are defninitely counting towards thte balance. The question is: If there is a running balance column, is there a way the simplifi connector could use that running balance column to determine balance without pending
EDIT: Checking has a running balance on Chase.com but the credit card does not.
EDIT2: I think for checking they say that the balance includes pending (or some pending?).
—
Rob Wilkens0 -
No, Chase does not normally include pending for its balance on the credit cards. My pending add up to zero, which is the Chase Balance b/c they clear the pending in the balance ahead of showing the cleared on the website and thus what they download.
This would be ok, and wouldn't have affected my balance in Simplifi if not for the ghost pending of yesterday's 28.03. As I found out with my bank, this latter error which I thought might be Simplifi's fault but probably has something to do with the bank's handling of how it downloads. I say this because my local bank was able to fix it in 2 weeks.

My checking account balance is correct today! I'm not sure if I got lucky or if there is a partial or complete fix, but this is the first time it's been correct in a couple of months after being correct every single time, previously.

At the moment, mine is right too (it's different than the bank, but i have pending/manual transactions). But it's been right one day here and there as-was. The only question is will this continue to work.
