Add a Trends/Comparison Chart [edited] (4 Merged Votes)

Monthly Summary is a good start. However, it compares current month to previous month. More useful would be the functionality Mint had. Namely, the ability to compare a specified date range to the same range in the previous 12 months prior. This facilitates year-over-year comparisons. I have attached two screen shots as an example that shows the graph and transaction totals for easy comparison of last year and the previous year.

Ability to compare reports time period over time period

It would be very useful to have a set of reports (spending, income, etc), which allow us to set two date ranges to compare. So, for example, I'd be able to look at my spending in March 2023 as compared to March 2024 (another example, 1Q2023 compared to 3Q2023). All the standing filters and dimensions could be applied, but you'd have both months' spending displayed separately so the user can easily compare the two on a total, per category, or other dimensional basis.

Hey Team ,
Please use graph chart for spending report along with pie chart . Add ability to compare spending with previous months

this would be very useful, and if I well remember, Mint had it….

I'd also like to see comparisons on the watch list. Lets look at current month spend and compare to last month and last year same month.

I would like to see a monthly spending report comparing this year to last year by category on a side by side basis - as was available in MINT

It would be great to compare expenses compared to the previous year time period. For example, grocery expenses for the period January - June 2024 (or year to date) compared to grocery expenses for the period January - June 2024. This could easily show users expenses are higher than the previous year, or are lagging. This is something Mint.com did very well and would be a great addition to Simplifi!

Hi,
In the "spending over time" report screen I think it would be helpful to be able to generate simple and compound line graphs showing your total spending over the course of the month. This could be overlayed with additional lines reflecting total spending in different categories, although you'd want to be able to toggle the category lines on or off to avoid over-cluttering the graph.
I really love the ability of being able to click one of the category bars on the bar graph and "zoom in" to see a breakdown of spending within the category. Seeing this in a line graph for spending over the course of the month would be awesome.
Lastly, if the line graph idea were implemented I think it would be very helpful to be able to call up a comparison line graph for the prior month as well as maybe an "average" over the last 3, 6, or 12 months.
All of these graphs would allow you to better understand spending over time and see patterns in spending habits beyond just the raw total of amount spent in a particular category.

This could be helpful, so it gets my vote.

Without horizontal expense analysis, I cannot recommend Simplfi to anyone. The best I can do is suggest they research to identify a different platform.
Add the feature and I probably stay. It's a FP&A 101-level view so you can see trends at a level that is actually meaningful.

Having the side-by-side bar graphs over time like the screenshot in Redraiderr2009's post - that is a very helpful trend to know for putting your spending in context!

As a user I would like to see a feature in the Spending Report that provides a chart comparison of my spend in categories from this year compared side by side with the previous year. For example, my spend for groceries, utiltities, car insurance this year vs last year.

I believe this idea already exists, I don't know the search terms for it though so I cannot refer you to it. Someone hopefully will merge your idea with the existing one so you can pool votes rather than starting fresh.

I would also like to see a side by side comparison whit filtering options for a date range, categories, tags, accounts, etc like in the standard report feature. My purpose is to see which category of expenses is changing from one year to the next.
I see that the idea is already in progress but where can I see updates on its approval for development?
Thanks

- Option to choose double bar graph, stacked bar graph, or double line graph.
- Option to show daily, weekly, or monthly values over time.
- Idea is so that you can quickly see how well you are either adding to or subtracting from your net worth over time so you can adjust your level of discipline as you go.
- Option to turn on or off “projected income vs expenses” over time into the future in any of the formats.
- Option to perform #4 based on averages from last two weeks, last month, last three months, last semester, last year, all history.
- Very similar to “bills and income section” but with graphical display.
This will make or break whether i keep the app.

Offer a built-in feature to directly compare spending between two specific time periods or years. To compare, we currently need to generate separate reports for each period and manually compare the results. Mint.com did this beautifully. I miss Mint.com!

Hey everyone! In Early Access, we have a new Income & Expense Report. Please check it out and let us know if it meets the needs presented throughout this request!
I can see in the Report that I'm able to break it down by month or by year and see a category comparison of each of those months or years. Hopefully this helps everyone here!
Let us know!

Hey again, everyone!
I marked this Idea post as "completed" due to the new Income & Expense Report. If anyone disagrees, let us know why as soon as possible so we can keep this request alive.
Thank you!

I disagree. The update does not included a comparison graph where I can see spend for a specific period of time from one year versus previous years by category like mint had.
1 -
I disagree as well. Unless the comparison report and graph between the current and previous years is being treated as a separate idea post. We need the comparison report like Mint had.

@Willowbean & @Odin700, thank you for the insight. This is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for!
The other Idea posts that come to mind from Mint users are these two:
The latter one seems to fall in line with a reporting version for trends. It seems to be similar to this request, however, this request has been around long before Mint shut down (it started in 2019). I think the newer ones may be more applicable for users who are looking for what Mint had in terms of comparing spending.
Let me know!

I suspect what happend is that this post describes two separate report ideas: the comparison for income and expense report (which was delivered) and the spending comparison report over a given period of time , e.g., current year vs previous year (not delivered). Inputs from both ideas are mingled here.
The spending comparison report would be an enhancement to the Spending Report and would allow the user to select a date rannge from a previous time period to compare with the same period of the current year. For example, at the end of the full year 2025 I could select an option to compare 2025 spending with full year 2024 and the data is shown in the same view side by side in a graphical chart by spending category (Mint used bar charts). Currently the only way to do this with Simplifi is to select the report that shows 2025 in one browser tab and open a new Simplifi app session in a different browser tab and switch between tabs…which is silly😊This is a very important feature as it allows a very easy way to see how your spending has changed over various categories over a specific time which is one of the main reasons we use Simplifi.
Hope this helps clarify!

I agree that the requests have gotten mingled. I reopened this Idea and merged the 'Trends Chart' Idea with it. I also edited the title of this request to align more with the chart style comparison that Mint had.
Thanks!
