Balance Issues with Citi (edited)
Comments
-
@RobWilk, our engineering team stated that Citibank made a change where they started including pending transactions in the balance, so we put in a fix from our end. The balance issues should be cleared up for that account — can you confirm, please? The example I'm referring to that was added to the ticket was provided here.
Thanks!

it is possible the only way for me to check is to have a pending transaction which i do not right now. I do not make charges everyday, but i just made my citi card my default Apple pay payment method, and right now i am driving home cross country (south to north) and maybe next stop for gas i will pick up a soda or something and use it, it may take a couple days to know if it’s fixed.

I am still having issues with the Citi Bank Costco CC.
SQ: Bank Balance: $1,145.23, matching Citi Website.
SQ Pending: $251.00, matching Citi Website.
Bank Balance + Pending: $1,396.24
SQ Balance with Pending: $1,800.36
Still off by: $404.13
Version: 4.34.0 (28952/fc71469dfa)
Tomorrow it gets paid off, so Saturday should be interesting to see how things line up.

@Coach Natalie someone else @hawk259 already reported the citi issue persists if you missed it. I have the same card as them.

@EL1234 Statement rolled on the 12th, 13th only had $72.86 worth of cleared transactions. Working my way backwards I can't the right combination to $404.13 as I would have to skip days/transactions. I believe it is the same issue, I just can't get things to add/line up to show it.

@hawk259, thanks for letting us know!
Since Citi is one of our OAuth API banks, please follow these steps to establish a completely fresh connection with the bank and gain a new access token:
- Navigate to the bank's website, sign in, and remove Quicken's access from the bank's third-party linked apps.
- Navigate back to Quicken Simplifi and make all of your accounts with this bank manual by following the steps here.
- Once you see the account(s) listed in the Manual Accounts section under Settings > Accounts, go back through the Add Account flow to reconnect to the bank and reauthorize your accounts.
- Carefully link the account(s) found to your existing Quicken Simplifi account(s) by following the steps here.
Let us know if this resolves the issue or not. Please also keep an eye on things moving forward to see if the issue pops back up. If it does, we'll need to gain some insight from you on whether the issue could be related to this:
If it is related to the Alert link I just shared, it would be wonderful to gather some data from you and submit an escalation to help make our teams aware of the continued impact. Let us know!

OK, following @Coach Natalie 's instructions to @hawk259 I now have the correct balance reported in QS when pending transactions are included.
Citi: 1724.59 + 68.16 = 1792.75
QS: 1792.75
DISREGARD
Here is what I am seeing/experiencing with Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi as of 11/14/2024
In QS:
"Balance with pending" selected
"Bank balance" selected
The balance in QS is correct and same as balance reported on Citi website
With "Balance with pending" selected QS seems to double count each pending transaction… but not quite.
Pending transactions Citi's website
Pending transactions downloaded to QS
1724.59 + 68.16 = 1792.75
1792.75 + 68.16 = 1860.91
QS Balance with pending = 1862.39
So far, I haven't found a reason for the 1.48 difference.
Note 1: Citi reports the balance on the website for the Costco Anywhere Visa in a less than clear way. The balance is shown in a separate space at the top of the page from the transaction register and on the website that balance DOES NOT include pending transactions.
The transaction register shows pending transactions at the top of the register followed by cleared transactions.
Note 2: @Coach Natalie posted above:
…our engineering team stated that Citibank made a change where they started including pending transactions in the balance, so we put in a fix from our end.
Perhaps this fix is still in the works and/or needs some tweaking.
Note 3: I do not make manual entries. I wait for all entries to be processed by the bank and downloaded to QS.

I made 3 transactions today on my Citi Costco card. 2 were purchases, the other was initiated at chase and is the payment for same which will arrive in 1-2 business days. All manually entered.
Quicken Simplifi is showing the balance correctly as zero so far.
There has not been a sync, none of these transactions nor updated balance has downloaded. Until this happens, I won’t know if things have improved or not.
i now demoted citi on my apple pay, and will use it less for now.

30 minutes later, the problem seemed to initially appear. The two new charges essentially are doubled, likely once for the manual entries (not matched) and once as pending at the bank. I am on my iPad now. Will dm an account screen pic.

Looks like this fixed my issue (de-authorizing QS, then re-authoizing QS). Will update if the problem returns. Thank you!

@RobWilk, thank you! Can you let me know when the balance discrepancy resolves on its own, please?

@RobWilk, can you also provide the following data:
- A screenshot from the bank's website that lists the account balance, pending transactions, and the balance as of the last posted transaction.
- A screenshot of the Accounts Summary page from the bank's website that has a wide enough scope to show the page URL at the top (this is the landing page after signing in).
Thank you!

not yet resolved, but screenshots sent. Let me know if anything is missing.

@RobWilk, thank you! I don't see the balance after the last posted transaction. Does Citi's website show a running balance for posted transactions?

no, best i can do there is see pending total, current balance, and available credit and limit.

Rob Wilkens1 -
Yes, Citi does show a running balance for cleared transactions but not for pending transactions.

maybe I’m not seeing it because I was on an iPad…. Using chrome not app… I’ll be able to get on a Mac in about an hour or so.

Sent image of web based register for this and last month
Last month did not have a running balance
there is no running balance this month because there are no cleared transactions. It appears to only show a running balance column for current month.

@RobWilk, very much appreciated! I'll let you know if the engineering team needs anything else from you.

The balance corrected at what was probably the next update at 7pm (ET).
Now on the top right on the web app it no longer shows (as it did earlier) pending transactions, and also it connected the bank transactions to the manually entered transactions properly.

As I mentioned elsewhere, my Penfed PSR card is showing this for a $59.99 charge right now. I think there are enough examples, but if you want me to resubmit info, ask me now.

Rob Wilkens0 -
@RobWilk, yes, please go ahead and do that in a new thread and we'll go from there.
Thank you!

I've got this again with my chase checking account, not sure if it's this issue or the chase-weekend balance issue. Two direct deposits came through on the 15th and have already cleared in Simplifi, but are also included in the "Balance with pending" tooltip. This causes my balance to show as much higher than it actually is (good thing I know not to trust the balance without manually comparing the Pending transactions with what the tooltip shows).

I hate to state the obvious, but please don't rely on anything but the information provided by your bank as found in your account on your bank's website.

@EL1234 If they downloaded and cleared, this is NOT the weekend issue. It's probably this issue. Regarding the weekend issue with Chase, the transactions wouldn't have downloaded, but the balance would include them (but if you manually entered them, they would double count). These issues seem similar, but there are subtle differences. The Chase weekend issue appears Chase-specific, whereas the other issue affects all (seemingly) banks. Mostly, it sounds like you may never see these issues if you don't manually enter transactions (I am not sure about this part because, in some cases, cleared transactions had this issue with the multiple FI alert). Still, your balance will always be 4-6 hours out of date — I like to know my current balance without waiting, so i manually enter.

Okay
The PenFed issue I quoted here (and I may go back over other):
-The Transaction Cleared at the bank
-The transaction Cleared in Simplifi
-but Simplifi in that top right tool-tip/bubble when you click the (i) next to balance is showing a $22.99 pending transaction. THAT AMOUNT DOES NOT COME FROM THE BANK IT COMES FROM MY OWN PENDING TRANSACTIONS/MANUAL TRANSACTIONS IN QUICKEN SIMPLIFI. So, Simplifi is MISTAKENLY presuming i have pending/manual transactions when it's obvious looking at the register example here that i do not. It's taking extra time for this to clear from that top right bubble after the transaction is cleared. I firmly believe this is the nature of the problem.
I hope this helps get to a fix sooner.

Rob Wilkens0 -
Whatever process UPDATES that bubble must be TRIGGERED to update AFTER a bank sync (whether it's after an individual bank sync or all bank sync). Right now, it looks like that gets updated PRIOR to a bank sync, which is why it takes 2 syncs to update.

Got it!
I do enter transactions manually but not that many so I might only be dealing with this one issue.
And I agree with what you wrote that the "balance with pending" seems to only count the pending transactions that show in simplifi - both the ones I've entered manually and any pending transactions that downloaded from the bank.
I've tried "EDIT PENDING SETTINGS" but it is set to show "Bank balance (Default)" even though it appears to be caculating the pending transactions. I have never been successful in changing the setting to "Balance with pending" though I have tried many many times.

Right - the weird part is that if you edit a manual transaction it updates right away, but not necessarily to the correct answer. I've been keeping a "Balance Transfer" transaction in Pending where I manually enter an amount to offset so that my cash flow projections will be correct without waiting for the next sync. That seems to update in real time (but it still doesn't fix the real issue until a few hours later).
